- Galveston Texas Cruise Port Guide | The Walking Cruiser Cruise Guide
Explore the Galveston Texas Cruise Port with our comprehensive guide. Discover tips and insights for your next Galveston Texas Cruise Port visit. Welcome to Cruise Port Galveston Situated on the beautiful Texas Gulf Coast, the Port of Galveston is the fourth most popular cruise homeport in the United States. Welcoming nearly 4 million passengers every year, this historic 840-acre port provides a seamless blend of rich Southern heritage, modern amenities, and island charm. As the port celebrates over 200 years of maritime history (established in 1825), it continues to grow with state-of-the-art facilities, making it the premier gateway for Caribbean and Mexican getaways for travelers across the South and Midwest. Cruise Lines Sailing from Galveston Carnival Cruise Line: Galveston is a massive hub for Carnival, featuring fan-favorite ships like the Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Dream, and Carnival Breeze. Royal Caribbean International: Sailing massive Oasis-class ships like Harmony of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, offering unmatched onboard entertainment and thrills. MSC Cruises: A newer addition to the port, sailing the luxurious and ultra-modern MSC Seascape. Norwegian Cruise Line: Offering innovative resort-style cruising on beautiful vessels like the Norwegian Viva. Disney Cruise Line: Bringing magic to the Gulf Coast with seasonal sailings aboard the Disney Magic. Princess Cruises: Delivering premium, relaxing retreats on ships like the Regal Princess. Modern Cruise Terminals The Port of Galveston operates four distinct, modern cruise terminals designed to get you on board your ship quickly and comfortably. Terminal 10 (Pier 10): This is Royal Caribbean’s dedicated, state-of-the-art facility. Impressively, it is the first Net-Zero Energy cruise terminal in the world and the first LEED Gold-certified terminal in Texas. Pier 16: The newest complex designed to host large vessels from MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line. Terminal 25 (formerly Terminal 1): Located directly across from several major parking lots, this spacious terminal primarily serves Carnival Cruise Line, along with select Princess and Disney sailings. Terminal 28 (formerly Terminal 2): Situated just across from Terminal 25, this terminal frequently hosts Disney Cruise Line and features streamlined security and check-in areas. Just 45 minutes from open waters, Galveston is perfectly positioned for tropical itineraries ranging from quick 4-day escapes to extensive 14-day voyages. The most common routes sail to the Western Caribbean, but you can also find Eastern Caribbean, Bahamas, and even Panama Canal transits. Top ports of call include: Mexico: Cozumel and Costa Maya Honduras: Roatan Belize: Belize City The Caribbean: Jamaica and Grand Cayman The Bahamas: Nassau and private cruise line islands Where Will You Go? Popular Destinations Navigating to the Port of Galveston is straightforward, whether you are driving in or flying. Airports: The port is serviced by two major Houston airports: William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) (about 40 miles away) and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) (about 70 miles away). Cruise lines offer direct shuttles, and rideshares are easily accessible. Parking: The Port of Galveston operates official parking lots (both covered garages and open-air surface lots) with shuttle services to the terminals. Daily rates generally range from $23 to $28. There are also highly rated private parking companies surrounding the port (like Park 2 Cruise) that offer walkable, no-shuttle-required parking for certain terminals. Parking & Getting to the Port Insider Tips for Cruisers 1. The "Drop & Park" Luggage Hack If you are driving and using an economy lot with a shuttle (or a walk-to-port lot), do not drag all your heavy luggage on the shuttle. Instead, drive straight to your assigned terminal first. Drop off your family and all the checked bags with the cruise line porters curbside. Then, the driver can head to the parking lot and take the shuttle back solo. It saves time, backaches, and the hassle of wrangling bags on a crowded bus. 2. Fly into HOU, Not IAH For cruisers flying into Texas, Houston has two major airports, but they are not created equal when it comes to getting to the port. Always try to book flights into William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) rather than George Bush Intercontinental (IAH). Hobby is on the south side of Houston and only about 40 miles from the port. IAH is on the far north side, requiring a 70+ mile drive straight through notorious downtown Houston traffic, which will cost significantly more in rideshare fees and time. 3. Look for "Park and Cruise" Hotel Deals Instead of paying $100+ for port parking, advise your readers to look into Galveston (or nearby Texas City/Webster) hotels offering "Park and Cruise" packages. Many hotels will let you park your car in their lot for the entire duration of your cruise if you stay at least one night before departure. They often include a free or discounted shuttle to the terminal, essentially making your pre-cruise hotel stay pay for itself in parking savings. 4. Respect the I-45 Traffic Interstate 45 is the main artery connecting Houston to Galveston Island. On weekends, accidents, construction, or just standard beach-goer traffic can turn a 45-minute drive into a 2-hour crawl. Always pad arrival times by at least 1.5 hours if driving in on embarkation day. Even better: arrive a day early. 5. Pre-Book Covered Parking Early Galveston is hot, and the Gulf Coast weather is unpredictable. Covered parking garages (like the one at Terminal 16 or private indoor lots) are highly coveted and sell out quickly, especially during peak summer and holiday sailings. Booking online weeks in advance not only guarantees a covered spot but usually scores a discount compared to drive-up rates. 6. Pre-Cruise Hangouts If readers have an afternoon boarding time and need to kill a few hours after checking out of a hotel, advise them to head to The Strand Historic District (just a 10-minute walk from the older terminals). It is packed with cafes, shops, and places to grab a coffee while watching the ships. Alternatively, a quick ride to The Seawall provides great beachfront spots to relax before heading into the terminal crowds.

Caribbean Princess Insider Tips, Hacks, and Hidden Secrets Caribbean Princess Every cruise ship has its quirks, hidden spaces, and operational shortcuts. Knowing how to navigate the Caribbean Princess like a seasoned pro can save you time, help you avoid crowds, and lead you straight to some of the best unobstructed views on the ocean. 1. The "Secret" Forward Viewing Decks If you want a completely unobstructed, panoramic view of port arrivals, departures, or a scenic canal transit, head all the way forward on Deck 10 (Baja) or Deck 11 (Aloha). Walk past the staterooms to the absolute end of the long hallways. You will encounter a door that looks semi-private or marked for safety. Open it, and you will step onto a massive, wrap-around public deck directly above the ship's bridge. Tip: These decks are almost always deserted because most passengers think the doors are restricted to the crew. Just be prepared—it gets incredibly windy out there when the ship is at cruising speed! 2. Escape to the Terrace Pool (Deck 14 Aft) The main mid-ship pools (Calypso and Neptune Reef) can get incredibly chaotic, loud, and crowded—especially on sea days when Movies Under the Stars is running. If you are looking for a quieter, more relaxed vibe without paying the premium fee for The Sanctuary, walk all the way to the back of Deck 14 (Riviera Deck) to find the Terrace Pool. Tucked beneath the structure of Skywalkers Nightclub, this hidden gem offers: A classic, adult-focused atmosphere. Incredible, unobstructed views of the ship's wake. Easy access to the Outrigger Bar for quick drink service. 3. Skywalkers Nightclub is a Daytime Sanctuary Suspended like a massive spoiler at the very back of the ship on Deck 18, Skywalkers Nightclub is famous for late-night dancing. However, during the day, it is one of the quietest spots on the entire vessel. The massive floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows offer a stunning 180-degree look at the ocean. It is the perfect, air-conditioned retreat if you want to read a book, work on a laptop, or enjoy a quiet conversation far away from the pool deck noise. 4. The Master the Promenade Workout (Decks 7 & 8) Unlike many modern ships where the jogging track wraps tightly around rows of sun loungers, the Caribbean Princess features a classic, wrap-around Promenade Deck. The track is primarily on Deck 7, but it forms a complete circle by directing you up a set of stairs at the bow to Deck 8, wrapping around the front of the ship, and coming back down. Integrating this incline into your walk or jog adds a great workout dynamic. Note for fresh air: If you prefer to avoid cigarette or cigar smoke entirely, try to stay on the port side, as the designated open-air smoking section is localized on the starboard aft corner of the promenade. 5. The Buffet Traffic Hack The World Fresh Marketplace can feel tight and chaotic during prime breakfast and lunch rushes. The amateur mistake is stopping at the very first food stations you see upon entering. Always walk deeper, all the way toward the aft (back) sections of the buffet. The stations further back frequently mirror the exact same food options but have a fraction of the line. Even better, you can walk right out the back doors onto the open aft decks to eat your meal with an ocean breeze. 6. The Central Staircase Advantage The Caribbean Princess belongs to the Grand Class of ships, but it has a massive design advantage over its older sister ship, the Grand Princess. On the Caribbean Princess, the central staircase extends fully above Deck 7, connecting right up through the passenger cabin decks. This makes vertical navigation mid-ship significantly faster if you want to bypass the mid-ship elevators during peak hours (like right after a major theater show lets out). - Ultimate Mediterranean Cruise Guide: 7 Ports, 1 Week
A real 7 port Mediterranean cruise itinerary on Explorer of the Seas, with how to get into every town, what it costs and whether each port is worth it. The Ultimate Mediterranean Cruise Guide: 7 Ports in 7 Days on Explorer of the Seas A one week Mediterranean cruise from Ravenna to Barcelona gives you seven countries' worth of scenery and about six usable hours in each port. Ours ran Venice (Ravenna), Zadar, Dubrovnik, Rome (Civitavecchia), La Spezia for Cinque Terre, Monte Carlo and Barcelona, on Explorer of the Seas. It is a brilliant itinerary. It is also the one where getting the logistics wrong costs you the whole day, because on this route almost no port drops you at the door. So this is the guide I wanted before I sailed it. Every port, how far the ship actually parks from the place you came to see, what the transport costs, and whether I would bother again. This Mediterranean Cruise at a Glance Ship: Explorer of the Seas, Royal Caribbean, Voyager class Size: 311 metres, 15 decks, around 3,200 guests at double occupancy Route: Ravenna to Barcelona, open jaw Ports: Ravenna (for Venice), Zadar, Dubrovnik, Civitavecchia (for Rome), La Spezia (for Cinque Terre), Monte Carlo, Barcelona Sea days: one, and you will want it Currency: euros in all seven ports, Monaco included Is a Mediterranean cruise actually worth it? Yes, if you treat it as a sampler rather than a holiday in any one place. In seven days you get Croatia, Italy twice over, Monaco and Spain, you unpack once, and you never sit on a transfer coach between cities. That is genuinely hard to replicate on land for the money. But be honest with yourself about what six hours in Rome is. You are not "doing Rome." You are getting a taste of it, deciding whether to come back properly, and sleeping on a ship that night. If that trade sounds thin to you, a land trip will serve you better. If it sounds like the best possible use of a week off, this is your itinerary. The full itinerary, port by port Ravenna: is this really a Venice cruise? No, and this is the thing people get caught out by. Porto Corsini sits roughly 145 km south of Venice, about two and a half to three hours each way by road. The terminal is around 8 to 15 km from Ravenna's own centre, and there is no walking route worth attempting. The official Visit Ravenna shuttle runs to a drop-off next to Ravenna train station, about 300 metres from the platforms. Local bus 90 does the same run for a couple of euros but leaves you a 500 metre walk from the terminal gate. Book the shuttle in advance if you are embarking, because Ravenna has very few taxis for a town its size. My honest take: if this is your embarkati on port, fly in early and give Venice its own overnight. If it is a port of call, take Ravenna itself. The Byzantine mosaics at San Vitale and Sant'Apollinare Nuovo are world class and the centre is flat and compact. Zadar: is it worth leaving the ship for? Yes, but only if you sort the transport first. Ships berth at Gazenica, about 4 km south of the Old Town, and this is the port where guides most often mislead people by quoting 1.5 km. The real walking distance is closer to 4.5 km with almost no shade. Cheapest first: Liburnija bus 9 to the main bus station then bus 2 or 4 into the Old Town for a couple of euros. Shuttle to a drop-off beside the Sea Organ, usually 5 to 7 euros each way. Taxi at 10 to 15 euros each way, often better value for two people. Once on the peninsula everything is within ten minutes: Roman Forum, St Donatus, Sea Organ, Greeting to the Sun. Half a day is enough. Dubrovnik: how do you get from Gruz to the Old Town? Take Libertas bus 1A, 1B or 3 from outside the terminal to Pile Gate. About 3 km, roughly 15 minutes, 1.73 euros from a Tisak kiosk. Taxi is 10 to 15 euros. Then the real decision: the city walls now cost 40 euros. That is the biggest sting of the week, which is why the Dubrovnik Pass is worth the maths, because the one day version is also 40 euros and includes the walls, museums including the Rector's Palace, and unlimited buses. Timing matters more here than anywhere. Go elsewhere first, Lokrum or the Mount Srd cable car via bus 8, and hit the Old Town after 3pm when the coach tours drain back to the ships. Rome: can you do it from Civitavecchia in a day? Yes, if you take the train and pick one area. Free port shuttle from your ship to Largo della Pace, then a 15 to 20 minute flat walk or a roughly 6 euro shuttle to the station. Regional trains run two to three an hour at a fixed 4.60 euros, about 50 to 60 minutes to Roma San Pietro, 75 to 85 to Termini. Budget 30 to 45 minutes gangway to platform. Take an earlier train back than you think you need. Vatican side or Colosseum side, not both, with pre-booked timed entry. This is the one port where a ship excursion earns its money, purely because they hold the ship. Cinque Terre: how many villages can you actually see? Two or three. Anyone telling you five in a port day is setting you up for a bad time. The Cinque Terre Express runs from La Spezia Centrale every 20 minutes in season, and village to village is often three or four minutes. The port is about a 25 minute walk from the station. Single tickets run 5 to 10 euros a leg by season; the Cinque Terre Treno Card runs from about 19.50 to 35 euros for one adult day depending on the green, yellow or red band. Cruise days in high season are usually red. Move more than twice and the card wins. Buy online in advance. Best plan for six hours: train through to Monterosso or Vernazza first, then work back towards La Spezia, so your last village is the closest to the ship. Monte Carlo: does a ship this big even dock? No. Explorer of the Seas is 311 metres and the Port Hercule cruise berth takes far smaller ships, so a Voyager class ship anchors offshore and tenders in. Plan around that. Once ashore, Monaco is the easiest port on the itinerary. The whole country is 2 square kilometres. The casino is about 15 minutes on foot from the harbour, Monaco-Ville is up on the rock, and the Grand Prix circuit runs past the port, so you can walk the tunnel and the Casino hairpin free on any non race day. Use the free public lifts and escalators. Bring your passport for the Casino de Monte-Carlo gaming rooms and expect an entry fee. Do not book an expensive inland excursion on a tender day. Barcelona: what does disembarkation day look like? Ships berth at Moll Adossat, roughly 3 km from the bottom of La Rambla, and you cannot walk out. The blue Portbus shuttle runs to the Columbus monument for a few euros. If your flight is late, do not sit in the terminal. Boqueria market, the Gothic Quarter and Plaça de Catalunya are all walkable from the drop-off. Sagrada Familia needs pre-booked timed entry. Left luggage in the centre solves the rest. Full detail in my Barcelona cruise port guide . What is Explorer of the Seas like on this itinerary? Explorer is a Voyager class ship, 15 decks, around 3,200 guests at double occupancy. On a port intensive route that size works in your favour: big enough for a proper Royal Promenade, ice rink and FlowRider, small enough to get off and back on without a 40 minute gangway queue. With seven ports and one sea day the ship becomes a hotel with good food. You will be off by 8am most days and back by 5. The features you paid for get used on that one sea day and in the evenings, which is why I would take this over a nine night version with three sea days. What does a week like this cost in port? Ravenna shuttle: low tens of euros return, less on bus 90 Zadar shuttle or bus: 4 to 14 euros return Dubrovnik bus plus walls: about 43 euros, or 40 for the Dubrovnik Pass covering both Rome train: 9.20 euros return, plus 6 to 12 for the station shuttle and timed entries Cinque Terre day card: 19.50 to 35 euros Monte Carlo: free to walk, 17 to 19 euros for the casino gaming rooms Barcelona shuttle: a few euros Call it 120 to 160 euros per person for the week before food and drink ashore. Ship excursions in these ports frequently run 80 to 150 euros per person per port. Five things I would do differently Treat Ravenna as its own port, not as Venice. Buy the Cinque Terre card and the Dubrovnik Pass online before the cruise. Go backwards through the crowds. Furthest village first, Old Town last. Pre-book timed entry for Rome. Build a bigger buffer at Civitavecchia and Monaco. A regional train and a tender queue are the two things that can leave you on a quay. Frequently asked questions Is a Mediterranean cruise worth it? Yes, if you want breadth rather than depth. Seven countries or regions in a week, one unpack, no internal transfers. Is Ravenna the same as Venice? No. Porto Corsini is around 145 km south of Venice, two and a half to three hours by road, no direct train. How do you get from Civitavecchia to Rome? Free port shuttle to Largo della Pace, then a walk or roughly 6 euro shuttle to the station, then a 4.60 euro regional train. 50 to 60 minutes to Roma San Pietro, 75 to 85 to Termini. How far is Dubrovnik cruise port from the Old Town? Gruz is about 3 km out. Bus 1A, 1B or 3 to Pile Gate in 15 minutes for 1.73 euros. Do you need the Cinque Terre Card from La Spezia? If you visit more than two villages, yes. Singles are 5 to 10 euros a leg, the day card 19.50 to 35 euros. Do cruise ships dock in Monaco or tender? Large ships tender. Port Hercule's cruise berth takes much smaller vessels. How far is Zadar cruise port from the Old Town? Gazenica is about 4 km south. Walking is 35 to 45 minutes on an exposed road; most take the shuttle, a taxi, or bus 9 then 2 or 4. What currency do you need? Euros throughout, Croatia and Monaco included. Carry 20 to 30 euros cash for buses and kiosks. What should you pack? Walking shoes above all, shoulder covering for churches, refillable bottle, sun hat, one smart outfit for formal night. Is eastern or western Mediterranean better? This route gives you both. Eastern means Croatia, Greece, Montenegro and old towns at the water's edge. Western means bigger cities and longer inland transfers. Watch the Full Seven Port Walkthrough. Subscribe to The Walking Cruiser for honest ship reviews and port guides every week. P&O Arcadia Rooms Hidden Gems on the P&O Arcadia To make your website stand out from generic travel brochures, highlight these specific, intimate details that returning passengers love about this ship: The Screening Room: Unlike massive multiplexes on mega-ships, Arcadia features a boutique, 30-seat cinema. It offers an incredibly intimate setting to watch a mix of classic films and recent releases, complete with comfortable seating. A Floating Art Gallery: The ship houses an enviable collection of over 3,000 pieces of British fine art. Guests can explore the collection at their own pace or attend lively art auctions in The Globe. Classic Promenade Deck: Cruising purists will love the traditional wrap-around promenade deck. It is perfect for an uninterrupted morning jog, a romantic evening stroll, or simply pulling up a deck chair to watch the ocean roll by. P&O Arcadia Insider Tips & Hidden Secrets Choose Your Cabin Wisely (The Balcony Secret) If you want the ultimate balcony experience without paying for a full suite, look specifically for an Aft Balcony on D Deck (such as cabin D184). These specific cabins feature balconies that are significantly deeper than standard port or starboard rooms, giving you panoramic wake views and room for actual sun loungers rather than just upright chairs. Insider Advice: Avoid A Deck if you want total quiet. These cabins are located directly beneath the Lido deck, meaning you might hear sun loungers being dragged early in the morning, and the overhang from the pool deck can cast shade over your balcony. The Ultimate Ship Spotting Locations For cruisers who love to observe vessel movements and port operations, the Arcadia offers some fantastic vantage points. Grab a window seat in The Crow’s Nest right at the front of the ship for elevated, climate-controlled, panoramic views as you sail into port. Alternatively, the classic wrap-around teak Promenade Deck (where three laps equal exactly one mile) is perfect for pacing the sides of the ship to capture clear photos of other vessels without glass glare. Rare Solo Balcony Cabins If your audience includes solo travelers, this is a massive selling point: Arcadia is one of the few older ships that caters incredibly well to individuals. During recent refits, P&O added dedicated Single Balcony Cabins (QF Grade) located high up on the Sun Deck. They sell out fast, but they offer the luxury of a private balcony without the dreaded single supplement penalty. The Hidden 30-Seat Cinema While modern mega-ships feature massive outdoor movie screens, the Arcadia houses a true hidden gem: The Screening Room. This intimate, 30-seat boutique cinema is tucked away on Deck 3. It screens a mix of recent blockbusters and classic films in a cozy, plush setting. Arrive early, as seats fill up quickly on sea days! The Coffee Upgrade While the free filter coffee in the Belvedere buffet is fine for a quick caffeine fix, coffee aficionados should head to Spinnaker Bar or The Piano Bar. Here, you can purchase proper barista-made Costa Coffee. If your readers plan to drink a few a day, advise them to purchase a coffee card on board to save money. Buy the Thermal Suite Pass Early The Oasis Spa Thermal Suite is the best place to be on a chilly sea day, especially on Norwegian Fjords itineraries. Passes are strictly limited to prevent overcrowding. Advise your readers to book their pass on embarkation day to secure access to the heated ceramic loungers and sensory steam rooms for the duration of the cruise. - Liberty of the Seas Guide 2026: Amplified, Galveston & Tips
Liberty of the Seas guide for 2026–27: what the Amplified refit changed, her move to Galveston, cabins, dining, tips included and FAQs answered. Liberty of the Seas Cruise Ship Guide: Everything You Need to Know (2026–27) Liberty of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's 154,407 ton Freedom Class ship, carrying around 4,546 guests, freshly Amplified in spring 2026 with Izumi, El Loco Fresh, Starbucks, The Lime & Coconut and a new escape room. After a summer in Southampton she moves to Galveston from 31 October 2026 for short Western Caribbean cruises. We sailed the Amplified Liberty of the Seas for seven nights from Southampton in 2026, in a balcony cabin. Our honest verdict: the new venues are a real step up, but the ship still needs some work in places. Everything below is updated for the 2026–27 seasons. Technical Specifications Explore the engineering and operational data of the world's most iconic cruise vessels. 154,407 GT Gross Tonnage 4,546 maximum Passenger Capacity 1,360 Crew Size 2007 Year Built Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Galveston Home Port Where Does Liberty of the Seas Sail in 2026–27? Summer 2026 – Southampton, UK (no-fly cruises) Five- to nine-night sailings from late May to October 2026, including Norwegian fjords, Northern Europe and Spain/France itineraries. Final UK cruises: 3 October (7 nights – Cherbourg, A Coruña, Bilbao, Le Havre for Paris) and 10 October (6 nights – Stavanger and Oslo). Transatlantic – 16 to 31 October 2026 A 15-night crossing from Southampton to Galveston, calling at Vigo, Lisbon and Funchal (Madeira), then eight sea days. A great option if you love sea days and want to try the ship at a lower nightly price. Winter 2026–27 and beyond – Galveston, Texas Four- and five-night Western Caribbean cruises from 31 October 2026, mainly to Cozumel and Costa Maya, with Roatán on some sailings. Royal Caribbean has confirmed Liberty stays in Galveston through 2027, alongside Icon of the Seas from August 2027. Royal Beach Club Cozumel is due to open in late 2026 – check whether your sailing includes it once it does. What's Included on Liberty of the Seas? Your Royal Caribbean fare includes: Your cabin and daily housekeeping The Main Dining Room, Windjammer buffet, Café Promenade, Sorrento's pizza and El Loco Fresh Production shows, the ice show and live music The Perfect Storm and Tidal Wave slides, FlowRider, mini golf, sports court and rock-climbing wall Adventure Ocean kids' club and the teen space Pools, whirlpools and the fitness centre Not included: specialty restaurants (Izumi, Chops Grille, Giovanni's), Starbucks, alcohol and most soft drinks, WiFi, spa treatments and shore excursions. Are tips included on Liberty of the Seas? No. Royal Caribbean adds gratuities automatically each day: $18.50 per guest per day in non-suite cabins (including Junior Suites) and $21 per guest per day in suites. An 18% service charge is added to bar drinks and specialty dining. You can prepay gratuities before you sail to lock in the current rate. Compare every major line in our 2026 cruise gratuities guide Is a drinks package worth it? Royal Caribbean's Deluxe Beverage Package covers cocktails, beer, wine, soft drinks and specialty coffee (but not Starbucks). Prices vary by sailing and are usually cheaper when bought before you cruise, so check your Cruise Planner for sales. It tends to pay off on sea days if you'll have more than five or six drinks a day; on a port-heavy itinerary it often doesn't. Everyone in the same cabin usually has to buy it. Is Liberty of the Seas Family Friendly? Yes – very. She is one of Royal Caribbean's best-value family ships, with Splashaway Bay for little ones, three big slides, a refreshed Adventure Ocean (now split into separate spaces for babies and juniors) and a teen area renamed Social040. Couples and adults will find quieter corners in the Solarium, Vintages wine bar and the specialty restaurants. What Changed in the 2026 Amplification? Liberty's Royal Amplification was planned for 2021 but postponed during the pandemic, so she was the last Freedom Class ship to get the modern venues her sisters already had. The spring 2026 refit finally closed that gap. A Caribbean-style pool deck The pool deck was redesigned with two Lime & Coconut bars, bright island décor, new whirlpools and bookable casitas (an extra charge). New places to eat and drink Izumi Hibachi & Sushi replaced Sabor Modern Mexican on Deck 4, near the Schooner Bar. El Loco Fresh (free) on Deck 11 near Splashaway Bay, with Cantina Fresca margarita bar next door. Starbucks is on Deck 4. Boleros is still there – early deck plans suggested Starbucks would replace it, but it didn't. Escape Room and a bigger casino Escape U: Art Studio – the new Royal Escape Room, entered through the Star Lounge on Deck 5, where the Connoisseur Club used to be. Casino Royale on Deck 4 expanded into the old photo gallery space. The shore excursions desk and photo gallery moved to Deck 3, outside Studio B, and the On Air karaoke lounge has gone. More cabins, less spa More than 35 new cabins were added, replacing the Deck 2 Conference Centre and the Deck 10 Card Room, plus space taken from Adventure Ocean and the spa. The free steam rooms and saunas in the fitness centre were removed. Existing cabins got little more than a light refresh. What didn't get added There's no Playmakers sports bar – the casino expansion took the space it would have needed. Liberty of the Seas Cabins and Suites Cabin type, Approx. size, What you get Interior 150–160 sq ft ,Two beds convertible to a queen; no window Promenade-view interior 1 50–160 sq ft, Bay window overlooking the Royal Promenade Ocean view 160–180 sq ft, Window or porthole; some large family ocean views Balcony 175–200 sq ft + balcony Private balcony, sofa, the most popular choice Junior Suite 290 sq ft + balconyBigger room and bathroom with bath; standard gratuity rate Grand Suite and above 380 sq ft upwards Suite perks, concierge lounge access on higher tiers Royal Suite / Owner's Suite Largest on board Separate living area, top-tier suite benefits Liberty of the Seas Restaurants Included Main Dining Room – three levels, open for breakfast, lunch on sea days and dinner. Café Promenade – sandwiches, pastries and snacks round the clock. Sorrento's – pizza on the Royal Promenade. Specialty (extra charge) Izumi Hibachi & Sushi – new in 2026, teppanyaki tables and sushi; Royal Caribbean says it's the most popular restaurant in the fleet by volume. Chops Grille – the steakhouse. Giovanni's Italian Kitchen – family-style Italian. Johnny Rockets – diner burgers and shakes [CHECK still on board post-Amplification]. Starbucks – new in 2026, not included in drinks packages. Booking tip: Teppanyaki at Izumi sells out fast on short sailings. Book it in the Royal Caribbean app before you board, and pick an early slot on night one or two. Shows and Nightlife on Liberty of the Seas Boots and Blades – new in 2026, a country and western ice show in Studio B that replaced Encore! An Ice Spectacular. Seats fill fast, so arrive early. Platinum Theatre – headline production shows (recent guests report Saturday Night Fever [CHECK current line-up]), plus comedians and guest entertainers. Royal Promenade – parades, street parties and live music. Best bars: The Lime & Coconut by day, Boleros for Latin music and dancing at night, the Schooner Bar for piano singalongs, and Vintages if you want a quieter glass of wine. Insider Tips for Liberty of the Seas Book Izumi and Boots and Blades early. Both are the hottest tickets on board. Don't count on a free sauna. The complimentary steam room and saunas were removed in 2026. Mexican food is still on board – Sabor has gone, but El Loco Fresh is free. Prepay gratuities if you've booked well ahead – it locks in today's rate. On the transatlantic, eight sea days in a row means pool loungers go early. A balcony is worth it on this one. Award-Winning Entertainment Norwegian Cruise Line is known for its Broadway-caliber shows, and the Bliss does not disappoint. Catch a full-scale production of the hit musical Jersey Boys, or grab a cocktail and sing along to your favorite Beatles hits with a live cover band at The Cavern Club, modeled after the legendary Liverpool venue. Alaska (Summer): Sailing out of Seattle, the Bliss shines in the Pacific Northwest. The ship's expansive Observation Lounge and The Waterfront (an oceanfront promenade) were designed specifically to give passengers unobstructed views of bald eagles, humpback whales, and massive glaciers. The Caribbean & Mexican Riviera (Winter): When the weather turns cold, the Bliss heads south. You can find it sailing out of Miami or Los Angeles, offering sun-soaked itineraries to tropical beaches and vibrant coastal cities. Norwegian Bliss Alaska Norwegian Bliss Deep Dive: Recent Upgrades, Dining Guide, and Insider Secrets To truly maximize a vacation on the Norwegian Bliss, it helps to look beyond the standard brochure. Following its major dry dock refurbishment, NCL dramatically remodeled several spaces to maximize outdoor relaxation and premium dining. Here is what you need to know about the modern, upgraded Norwegian Bliss experience. The Upgrades: What's New Onboard? If you have read older reviews of the Bliss, you might notice mention of spaces that have since been entirely reimagined. NCL overhauled key areas of the ship to meet shifting passenger demands: The Introduction of Horizon Park Replacing the old upper-deck laser tag arena is Horizon Park, a brand-new, top-deck outdoor recreational concept. It serves as a laid-back, green-space gathering area where guests can play lawn games like cornhole and giant Jenga, or lounge in premium reclining chairs while enjoying uninterrupted, 360-degree ocean views. Expanded Dining & The Arrival of Palomar To accommodate high demand for specialty restaurants, the ship’s culinary layout received a massive upgrade: Palomar: This elegant, high-end Mediterranean seafood specialty restaurant—which originally premiered to massive acclaim on the newer Norwegian Prima—officially replaced Ocean Blue. Cagney's Steakhouse & Teppanyaki : Both fan-favorite venues were physically expanded during the dry dock, taking over neighboring spaces (like Los Lobos and Coco's) to add significantly more seating and shorten reservation waitlists. 3 Hidden Gems & Onboard Insider Secrets 1. The Waterfront is Better for Glacier Viewing Than the Observation Lounge While the indoor, 180-degree Observation Lounge is stunning, it fills up incredibly fast on Alaska itineraries. For a less crowded experience, head down to The Waterfront on Deck 8. This quarter-mile oceanfront promenade features outdoor seating for bars and restaurants, complete with heavy-duty heat lamps so you can watch glaciers or spot whales comfortably without fighting for an indoor chair. 2. Seek Out the Mandara Spa Thermal Suite For those looking to escape the high energy of the main pool deck, the Mandara Spa Thermal Suite passes are worth every penny. It features heated ceramic lounge chairs, a thalassotherapy pool, a steam room, an organic Salt Room designed to improve respiratory health, and even a Snow Room that uses cold therapy to stimulate blood circulation. 3. Escape the Crowds at Spice H2O Traveling without kids or just need a quiet afternoon? Spice H2O on Deck 17 is a complimentary, adults-only daytime retreat styled after the beach clubs of Ibiza. It features relaxing hot tubs, a cascading cooling waterfall, and plenty of sunbeds away from the main pool deck noise. At night, it transforms into an open-air dance floor under the stars. While she shares the sleek architectural DNA of older sisters like Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent, the Xcel is a new ship that introduces several reimagined public areas and exclusive concepts that can't be found elsewhere in the celebrity fleet. Among celebrity edge class ships, Xcel also adds the Celebrity Pool Club as one of its exclusive new concepts, setting it apart from other edge class ships. More exciting details are still emerging, so stay tuned. 1. The Bazaar (Evolution of Eden) Replacing the multi-story Eden venue found on earlier Edge-class ships, The Bazaar serves as a lively, destination-centric cultural hub that helps Celebrity Xcel stand out even among other Edge class ships. This transformed space features an indoor marketplace celebrating the artisan crafts, sounds, and flavors of the regions the ship visits. It features: Mosaic Restaurant: An open-kitchen venue serving elevated regional cuisine, alongside a highly exclusive Chef's Table experience and a plant-based 7-course tasting menu. Spice: A casual, beachfront-style café offering grab-and-go bites throughout the day. The Chef's Studio: Celebrity's first-ever dedicated cooking school at sea on the newest of the celebrity edge class ships, where passengers can take interactive, destination-inspired culinary classes. The Bazaar also hosts destination-inspired local festivals tied to the regions the ship visits. 2. BORA (Rooftop Garden Dining) Nestled right in the middle of the lush, open-air Rooftop Garden, BORA is the ship's new outdoor dining venue. Replacing the previous Rooftop Garden Grill concept, BORA is an alfresco restaurant focused on shareable, authentic Mediterranean dishes. It is designed to capture relaxed, romantic coastal dining under the open sky—perfect for a sunny sea-day brunch, a starlit dinner date, or an easy onboard date night. 3. Attic at The Club & The Annex Grown-up gaming gets a major upgrade in the Attic at The Club. This retro, neon-lit lounge features classic arcade games (like Pac-Man), pool tables, foosball, and darts. By day, The Club also hosts activities like trivia and dance classes. Later in the evening, the venue also lends itself to lively dance parties. For groups wanting a private experience, The Annex can be reserved as a party lounge for private gatherings, with karaoke night and advanced multi-sport simulators. 4. IYKYK Speakeasy Tucked away on board is IYKYK (If You Know, You Know), an intimate, hidden speakeasy bar serving craft cocktails in a sleek, exclusive atmosphere. Celebrity Xcel isn't just a triumph of interior design; it represents a major technical milestone for marine engineering. A Fleet First: Celebrity Xcel is the very first ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet equipped with a tri-fuel-capable engine built by Wärtsilä. This innovative propulsion system is uniquely engineered to run on three different fuel types, including green methanol. By integrating methanol compatibility, the ship drastically reduces its local exhaust emissions—including sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter—making it one of the most eco-conscious premium ships currently sailing. World-Class Accommodations & Staterooms True to the Edge-class philosophy, the accommodations onboard feel more like high-end boutique hotel suites than standard cruise cabins, with 1,646 staterooms onboard. Infinite Verandas: With the touch of a button, your entire stateroom wall drops down, transforming your living space into an open-air balcony; 918 staterooms are Edge Staterooms with Infinite Verandas. The Retreat: An exclusive "resort-within-a-resort" sanctuary reserved strictly for suite guests, with personalized service and dedicated service throughout the experience. It grants access to the private Retreat Sundeck, the Retreat Lounge, and Luminae Restaurant, which is exclusive to suite passengers and serves spa-inspired cuisine. AquaClass SkySuites: New to Celebrity Xcel, these suites pair floor-to-ceiling views with wellness amenities. Two-Story Villas: For ultimate luxury, these sprawling multi-level villas feature their own private plunge pools and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the ocean. All staterooms include keyless entry and RFID bands. Following its highly anticipated winter debut in the Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale, with its inaugural sailing from Port Everglades and 5-night Eastern Caribbean itineraries with calls such as Cozumel and Bimini that give guests more leisure between port days and sea days, Celebrity Xcel has crossed the Atlantic. In 2026, it sails in Europe and the Mediterranean, operating 7- to 11-night loops out of prime ports like Barcelona and Athens, with immersive itineraries through the Greek Isles, the Italian Riviera, and overnight stays in Madeira, Portugal. Culinary Excellence: 32 Food & Beverage Venues Celebrity Xcel boasts an incredible 32 distinct food and beverage venues, including 15 restaurants and 12 bars and lounges. The sheer variety ensures that guests can eat their way around the world without ever leaving the ship. Signature Specialty Dining For guests looking to elevate their evenings, Xcel brings back fleet favorites alongside completely new concepts: Le Voyage by Chef Daniel Boulud: The globally renowned chef returns with an intimate, upscale dining experience inspired by his own world travels. Fine Cut Steakhouse: A high-end, sophisticated space serving premium cuts of meat and fresh seafood. Raw on 5: The go-to spot for fresh sushi, oysters, and Japanese-inspired delicacies. Eden Restaurant: A multi-level, visually stunning dining room that blends nature-inspired architecture with inventive, sensory-focused cuisine. The Grand Plaza & Bars The beating heart of the ship is The Grand Plaza, a soaring, three-story venue inspired by the piazzas of Italy. Beneath a striking, massive chandelier, guests can gather at the famous Martini Bar for flair bartending shows. If you prefer a view, head to the Sunset Bar at the aft of the ship. Designed as a multi-level terrace, it offers panoramic, unobstructed ocean views—the perfect place for a pre-dinner craft cocktail. Next-Generation Entertainment & Tech Celebrity Xcel completely reimagines what entertainment at sea looks like, leaning heavily into immersive technology, and these first impressions of Xcel's entertainment and tech are hard to ignore. The Theatre & The Tree of Life The main Theatre features a spectacular 20-foot-tall curved 4K LED screen packed with 17 million pixels. It utilizes a 360-degree circular scrim and eight 21K laser projectors to wrap the audience in stunning visuals, with a broad, dance floor-style performance space that helps the productions feel more immersive. The centerpiece of the stage is the Tree of Life—a monumental 18-foot-tall structure adorned with 2,842 individual LED leaves. The ship hosts three brand-new production shows developed by talent from Broadway, film, and television, performed by Celebrity's largest cast to date as Broadway-caliber performances included in the fare. The Magic Carpet You cannot talk about the Celebrity Xcel without mentioning the Magic Carpet. This incredible engineering marvel is a tennis-court-sized cantilevered platform that hangs off the starboard side of the ship. It moves vertically across 14 decks, transforming its function based on where it stops—from an open-air extension of a restaurant on Deck 5 to a sky-high lounge with live music at the very top of the ship, and its elevated, ever-changing setup also makes it a can't miss event backdrop for standout moments. Celebrity Xcel Insider Tips: Hidden Secrets & Hacks You Need to Know If you want to experience the Celebrity Xcel like a seasoned pro, you have to look beyond the deck plans. Here are the top insider tips and hidden gems that will help guests get more from the cruise ship and elevate your sailing from a standard vacation to a VIP experience. Find the Secret 1920s Speakeasy There is a hidden bar onboard that you will not find on any official map, and the crew will playfully deny its existence if you ask them directly about a "secret bar" (try asking about "secrets on the ship" instead for a hint). How to find it: Look for a vintage-style photo booth. When you scan your SeaPass card, the booth physically moves to reveal the entrance to a hidden 1920s-themed speakeasy. The Experience: There is a strict no-phones policy—you are asked to place your device in a sealed bag—a period-accurate cocktail menu, and a one-hour time limit to ensure everyone gets a chance to experience the magic. The Bazaar's Immersive Details The Bazaar is heavily promoted as Xcel's ever-changing cultural venue, but there are two specific features most cruisers miss: Programmed Scents: The venue doesn't just change its lighting and live performances—the scent of the room is actually programmed to shift throughout the day to match the regional theme of your itinerary, and some sailings may also feature Caribbean inspired live music depending on the programming. Spice Restaurant: Tucked away at the very back of The Bazaar is a complimentary, fast-casual dining spot called Spice. It features a customizable menu, a beautiful enclosed outdoor seating area, and a secondary coffee bar that rarely has the long lines you will find at the main Café al Bacio. Track Down the "Secret" Pools & Hot Tubs The main Resort Deck is stunning, but it gets busy on sea days. For a quieter soak, seek out these alternative spots: The Champagne-Glass Hot Tubs: Walk up the stairs near the running track to find two elevated hot tubs. They offer the best panoramic views on the entire ship and are often completely empty early in the day. The Aft Plunge Pools: Located near the Sunset Bar, these glass-sided plunge pools offer incredible wake views and are tucked away from the heavy foot traffic of the main thoroughfare. The nearby celebrity pool club also gives the central pool zone a more polished feel if you want another place to linger. On the final sea day, that area can take on a Poolest Day-style atmosphere around the Celebrity Pool Club. Unlock the "Vitamin D Deck " If you purchase access to the SEA Thermal Suite in the spa, do not just stay indoors. Xcel introduced the Vitamin D Deck, an exclusive, forward-facing sun deck located right at the front of the ship. Part of Xcel's redesigned wellness complex with expanded spa offerings, it is a great perk for anyone who loves spa days and wants a quiet, spa days feel between treatments. It is specifically reserved for Thermal Suite guests, making it one of the quietest, most peaceful outdoor lounging areas onboard. Smart Cabin Hacks The Edge-class staterooms are packed with modern tech that can catch first-timers off guard: The "Go Green" Setting: Check your thermostat's settings on the digital wall panel. If the "Go Green" mode is active, your room will automatically warm up by a couple of degrees and turn off the lights when you leave. Toggle this off if you prefer returning to a perfectly chilled cabin after a hot day ashore. Heated Mirrors: The bathroom mirrors are heated, meaning they will never fog up while you are taking a hot shower. Magnetic Walls: Like most cruise ships, the cabin walls are metallic. Pack heavy-duty magnetic hooks to hang lanyards, hats, and daily planners to maximize your vertical storage space. Skip the Main Pool Bar The primary bar on the Resort Deck gets slammed during peak afternoon hours. Instead of waiting, take a short walk aft to the Sunset Bar. It is typically fully staffed, multi-leveled, and offers much faster drink service with infinitely better views of the ship's trailing wake, so you can spend a day long stretch between the pool and nearby bars without returning to the crowded main hub.
