Discover the ultimate Sun Princess cruise guide. Explore Sun Princess itineraries, amenities, and more for an unforgettable voyage. Sun Princess Ultimate Sun Princess Cruise Ship Guide & Review: Inside the Sphere Class Discover everything you need to know about the new Sun Princess. Explore our ultimate guide covering ship stats, dining, The Dome, Park19, and the best staterooms for stunning ocean views. Launched in early 2024, the Sun Princess is a groundbreaking addition to the Princess Cruises fleet. As the first vessel in the highly anticipated Sphere Class, she is the largest ship ever built for Princess—and the fleet's very first to be powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Boasting a revolutionary design centered around sweeping glass architecture, this ship is built to connect you directly with the ocean. From the multi-story glass Piazza to gravity-defying top-deck attractions, here is everything you need to know before you book your sailing. Standout Features & Architectural Marvels Princess completely reimagined its traditional layout for the Sun Princess, introducing several first-at-sea concepts and stunning spaces. The Dome Inspired by the terraced cliffs of Santorini, The Dome is a breathtaking glass-enclosed geodesic structure situated at the front of the ship. By day, it serves as a tranquil indoor/outdoor oasis featuring a cascading water feature and pool. By night, it transforms into a high-energy South Beach-style entertainment venue featuring cutting-edge aerial acrobatics created in partnership with Cirque Éloize. The Sphere Atrium (The Piazza) The heart of the ship is the three-story Piazza, encased in a massive outward-bowing glass sphere. This architectural marvel floods the central gathering space with natural light and offers uninterrupted panoramic views of the ocean. It’s the perfect place to grab a coffee at Coffee Currents, enjoy a drink at Bellini's, and listen to live music while watching the world go by. Park19: Top-Deck Adrenaline Located aft on Decks 19 through 21, Park19 is a multi-generational activity zone loaded with nine distinct attractions: Sea Breeze: The first-ever Rollglider at sea. Sit in a harness and zip along an overhead track at speeds up to 11 mph, suspended high above the ocean. Infinite Horizon: Lean against tilted glass walls cantilevered over the side of the ship, allowing you to peer directly down ten decks to the waves below. Coastal Climb: A massive climbing structure that takes you from Deck 19 to Deck 20, ending at "The Lookout" for unobstructed 360-degree views. Spellbound by Magic Castle A truly unique addition is Spellbound, a Victorian-themed parlor created in partnership with Hollywood’s famous Magic Castle. Tucked behind a hidden black door, this venue blends world-class close-up magic with theatrical, sleight-of-hand mixology in an incredibly immersive environment. Dining: 29+ Bars and Restaurants The Sun Princess elevates dining with over 29 venues, ranging from casual bites to ultra-premium specialty experiences. Main Dining: The ship features the stunning three-story Horizons Dining Room. The massive aft-facing windows provide incredible wake views while you dine. Specialty Highlights: Love by Britto: An artistic, romantic dining experience created in collaboration with pop artist Romero Britto. The Catch by Rudi: A seafood haven masterminded by renowned Chef Rudi Sodamin. Umai Hot Pot & Teppanyaki: Interactive Asian cuisine where you cook your own premium meats and vegetables in savory broths. Alfredo’s Pizzeria: A Princess staple, now featuring an open kitchen and authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas baked in a massive oven. Staterooms & Balconies With 2,157 cabins onboard, the Sun Princess leans heavily into outdoor space—over 1,500 staterooms feature balconies. For those who love ship spotting and port watching, the layout of this ship is a dream. The abundance of glass and outward-facing architecture means you are rarely without a view. If a great vantage point of the harbor is essential for you, the Cabana Mini-Suites are highly recommended. These feature a private, resort-style outdoor lounge space (a cabana) separating the room from the traditional balcony, giving you an expansive, comfortable area to track local vessel movements and take in sweeping bay views. At the very top end, the ship features 80 suites, including the massive 1,200-square-foot Sky Suite, which offers exclusive access to the Sanctuary Collection amenities. Sun Princess Entertainment & Nightlife: Shows, Bars, and The Magic Castle Discover the ultimate guide to entertainment and nightlife on the Sun Princess. From the technologically advanced Princess Arena and Cirque Éloize in The Dome to the exclusive Spellbound by Magic Castle. When the sun goes down, the Sun Princess comes alive with some of the most innovative and immersive entertainment ever seen at sea. Moving away from traditional cruise ship showrooms, Princess Cruises has completely reimagined its performance spaces for the Sphere Class. Whether you are looking for high-energy Latin dance parties, awe-inspiring acrobatics, or an exclusive Victorian speakeasy experience, here is your complete guide to the entertainment and nightlife aboard the Sun Princess. Main Theaters & Production Shows Princess has introduced new venues and updated fan-favorite spaces to deliver next-generation performances. The Princess Arena Replacing the traditional Princess Theater, the Princess Arena is the most technologically advanced performance space in the fleet. This dynamic theater features a retractable stage and can be configured in three different ways: traditional proscenium, in-the-round, or a 270-degree keyhole setup. Highlight Shows in the Arena: Viva La Música: A high-energy, immersive Latin music showcase featuring hits from Gloria Estefan, Camila Cabello, and Santana, complete with incredible ballroom choreography. Vallora, A Pirate Quest: An adventurous, nostalgic production set to an upbeat 80s soundtrack including Eurythmics, Survivor, and Chicago. Fiera!: A beautifully reimagined love story set in a turn-of-the-century European fairground, featuring a medley of popular hits like Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine." Stage Struck: A massive celebration of musical theater featuring iconic numbers from Rent, Dreamgirls, and My Fair Lady. 🤫 The Walking Cruiser's Top Insider Secrets for Sun Princess Master the Sun Princess with our insider tips and secrets. Learn where to find the best wake views, how to book Spellbound, and the smartest times to secure a seat in The Dome. A ship as massive and innovative as the 4,300-passenger Sun Princess comes with a slight learning curve. While the sweeping architecture and incredible venues are easy to spot, maximizing your time onboard requires a bit of strategy. Whether you are looking for the ultimate vantage point for a sailaway or trying to score a seat at the most exclusive venue at sea, here are the insider secrets you need to know before you sail. 1. The Best Spots for Ship Watching & Photography For those who love tracking harbor vessel movements or capturing clean, wide-angle b-roll of the ship's wake, the Sun Princess offers several phenomenal vantage points: Sea View Terrace (Deck 17 Forward): Located just outside The Dome, this area is covered by a glass ceiling. It allows you to watch sailaways and port operations with perfect visibility without battling the wind. Cabana Mini-Suites: If an unobstructed vantage point of the port is essential for you, the Cabana Mini-Suites on Deck 9 are a game-changer. They feature a unique indoor/outdoor cabana lounge that leads out to a private balcony, giving you an expansive space to relax and watch passing ships. Wake View Infinity Pool (Deck 8 Aft): The ultimate spot for unobstructed aft views. Grab a coffee and head here early in the morning to film the sunrise over the ship's wake. 2. Crack the Code on Entertainment Bookings The Sphere Class completely overhauled entertainment, shifting away from massive theaters to more intimate, immersive venues. Spellbound is a Tough Ticket: The Magic Castle speakeasy experience is the most exclusive venue on the ship. Because the secret theater only holds about 30 people per show, you must book this the absolute second you board (or via the Medallion app beforehand if available). It sells out almost instantly. Queue Early for The Dome: The Cirque Éloize shows (like Artbeat) in The Dome are incredible, but the venue's lounge seating only accommodates about 250 people per showing. You need to line up at least 30 to 45 minutes early to secure a good seat. 3. Capturing Empty-Ship Content If you are trying to film clean ship tours or take photos without crowds blocking the architecture, timing is everything. The three-story, glass-enclosed Piazza and The Dome are flooded with natural light early in the morning. Skip the late-night shoots; the absolute best time for pristine, uncrowded structural shots is between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM, right before the line for Coffee Currents starts forming. 4. Finding the Quiet Zones With thousands of passengers, the main Lido decks (Decks 17 and 18) are bustling hubs of activity. Deck 9 Cabana Deck: If you book a Cabana Mini-Suite, you gain exclusive access to a sprawling outdoor deck space reserved only for those cabins. It remains remarkably quiet and relaxed compared to the upper decks. The Sanctuary: If you want total peace, this adults-only retreat is massive on the Sun Princess. However, note that Princess is transitioning this space so that it will primarily be reserved for guests staying in the premium Sanctuary Collection staterooms. 5. Dining & Drink Hacks O'Malley's Strategy: The resident band, The Rambling Rovers, draws a massive crowd every single night. If you want a table to enjoy your Guinness and pub food, do not wait until the music starts—arrive at least an hour early to claim a spot. Good Spirits at Sea: On the Sun Princess, this cocktail venue is finally a standalone bar tucked away in a corner. Unlike older ships in the fleet, you can order from the incredible specialty cocktail menu anytime the bar is open, not just during the scheduled mixology "shows." The Nieuw Statendam caters beautifully to travelers who appreciate a relaxed, premium travel rhythm. Nieuw Statendam Insider Tips, Hacks, and Hidden Secrets Every cruise ship has its quirks, shortcuts, and hidden gems that only frequent cruisers or crew members know about. If you are planning a voyage on Holland America Line’s Nieuw Statendam, these insider strategies will help you bypass the crowds, unlock free perks, and find the absolute best spots on board. 1. Secret Spots & Hidden Decks The Secret Bow Deck (Deck 5 Forward) If you want an unobstructed, wind-in-your-hair view for sailaways or entering scenic ports, head to Deck 5 all the way forward. Walk down the passenger hallway to the very front of the ship, and you will find a heavy, unmarked steel exterior door. Open it, and you’ll step out onto a massive, little-known observation deck right above the ship's bow. The Crow’s Nest Day Retreat Located at the top of the ship on Deck 12 forward, the Crow’s Nest is an incredible observation lounge during the day. It features floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, massive plush leather chairs, and Navajo-print cushions. It houses the Explorations Central (EXC) interactive screens where you can track the ship's live nautical path, making it the quietest, most scenic spot on the ship to read a book or check emails. 2. Clever Dining & Beverage Hacks Free Treats at the Grand Dutch Café While the premium specialty coffees at the Grand Dutch Café (Deck 3) cost a nominal fee, almost all the food items are 100% complimentary. Do not miss out on the Bossche Bol—a massive, traditional Dutch cream puff completely covered in dark chocolate. They also serve free hot savory snacks like authentic Dutch bitterballen (crispy meat croquettes) and fresh Dutch apple pancakes. The Tamarind Bar Backdoor Can’t snag a prime-time reservation at Tamarind, the highly-rated specialty Pan-Asian restaurant? Head to the elegant Tamarind Bar tucked inside the venue on Deck 10 aft. Anyone can walk in without a reservation to enjoy a custom cocktail. Better yet, you can often order select small plates from the main Tamarind kitchen right to the bar counter. Skip the Lines at Dive-In and New York Pizza The custom burgers at Dive-In and fresh-baked personal pies at New York Pizza are arguably the most popular casual lunch spots on the ship, meaning long lines during peak sea days. The App Hack: Open the Holland America Navigator App while lounging on the pool deck. You can place your custom food order digitally and receive a push notification the exact moment your food is hot and ready for pickup, entirely skipping the physical queue. 3. Entertainment & Timing Strategies Sit in the Balcony at the World Stage The World Stage theater features a breathtaking, two-story, 270-degree LED screen that wraps around the audience. If you sit on the lower level (Deck 2) too close to the stage, you will constantly turn your head back and forth, missing the grand scale of the visuals. For the best sensory experience, head upstairs to the Deck 3 balcony seating, which gives you a perfect widescreen view of the entire production. The Music Walk "20-Minute Rule" Because the Nieuw Statendam lacks a massive, singular mega-theater show, the entire ship converges on the Music Walk (B.B. King's Blues Club, Billboard Onboard, and the Rolling Stone Rock Room) around 8:30 PM. The venues are intimate, and chairs fill up fast. To secure a table or a good spot near the dance floor, you must arrive at least 20 minutes before the band's designated start time. • Barcelona Cruise Port 2026: Terminal Guide & Getting to Town

Which terminal your ship uses, the cheapest way into the city, whether you can walk it, and the terminal change coming at the end of 2026. Barcelona Cruise Port Guide 2026: Terminals, Shuttle and Walking Distance Almost every cruise ship in Barcelona docks at Moll Adossat, a working industrial quay 1 to 2.5 miles south of the old town, and you should not plan on walking it. Take the T3 Portbus shuttle (€3 single, €4.50 return, about 10 minutes to the Columbus Monument) or a taxi. The one city-centre terminal, WTCB, closes at the end of 2026. So the terminal letter on your boarding pass genuinely changes the shape of your day. Here is what is true in 2026, what changes in 2027, and how to actually spend a port day here. Where does your cruise ship dock in Barcelona? Barcelona is an alongside port, so there is no tendering. Your ship berths at a terminal and you walk off the gangway straight onto the quay. Almost all cruise traffic uses Moll Adossat (the Adossat Quay), a long stretch of terminals south of the city centre near Montjuïc. One terminal, WTCB, sits on the Barcelona quay much closer to town, and that one is being phased out at the end of 2026. TERMINAL | LOCATION | PRIMARY CRUISE LINES & STATUS Terminals A & B | Moll Adossat | Royal Caribbean & others; active during shore power upgrades. Terminal C | Moll Adossat | Mixed cruise lines; scheduled for closure/demolition late 2026. Terminals D (Palacruceros) & E (Helix) | Moll Adossat | Carnival Corp brands: Carnival, Costa, AIDA, Princess Cruises. Terminal H | Moll Adossat | Dedicated MSC Cruises hub; the quay's most distant terminal. Terminal G | Moll Adossat | Royal Caribbean Group's future hub; scheduled to open in Spring 2027. WTCB (World Trade Center) | Barcelona Quay | Small vessels; city-center location closing permanently in late 2026. One correction worth making, because plenty of older guides still get this wrong: the WTC North terminal closed back in October 2023, and all its traffic moved out to Adossat. If a guide tells you small ships still berth at WTC North, it is out of date. Bottom line: check your cruise documents for the terminal letter, not just "Barcelona." It genuinely changes your plan for the day. Is Barcelona cruise port walkable? Only from WTCB, and not for much longer. From WTCB, yes. It is about a 15 minute walk to the bottom of La Rambla via the Columbus Monument, following the marina promenade past the Maremagnum shopping centre and the old port. Flat, well signed, and one of the more pleasant terminal walks in the Mediterranean. But WTCB closes at the end of 2026, so this stops being an option. From Moll Adossat, technically possible but not worth it. You are looking at 1 to 2.5 miles depending on the terminal, 25 to 45 minutes on foot, along a working port road with container cranes and traffic rather than architecture, and almost no shade. Terminal H, the MSC one, is the furthest out and genuinely not a fun walk with kids or luggage. The port authority itself points passengers at the shuttle instead. So from 2027, assume you are not walking. Budget for the shuttle or a taxi and do your walking once you are actually in the city. How do you get from Barcelona cruise port into the city? Three options, in the order most people use them. The T3 Portbus (Cruise Bus) . The easiest and most popular. It runs a continuous loop from all Moll Adossat terminals and drops you near the Christopher Columbus Monument at Torre de Jaume I. €3 single, €4.50 return, bought from the driver. The buses are wheelchair accessible. Note that your standard metro card or T10 travel pass is not valid on this service. Taxi . Ranks sit directly outside every terminal. About 10 minutes into the city centre. I paid around €25 from the terminal into town, which is worth knowing because most guides quote a vaguer range than that. Split between three or four of you it works out cheaper than the shuttle, and you get dropped exactly where you want rather than at the Columbus Monument. Metro . Not from the terminal directly. Once the Cruise Bus drops you at the Columbus Monument it is a short walk to Drassanes station on the L3 green line, which connects to Plaça de Catalunya and Park Güell. What is changing at Barcelona cruise port in 2026 and 2027? Barcelona is cutting its cruise terminals from seven down to five and moving every cruise operation out to the Adossat wharf, away from the city centre. The Port of Barcelona and Barcelona City Council signed the agreement in July 2025, committing €185 million on top of the €265 million already spent under an earlier 2018 deal. Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni described it as the first time a limit has been placed on the growth of cruising in the city, after passenger numbers rose 20% between 2018 and 2024. When What happens October 2023 WTC North closed. Around 340 cruise and ferry calls a year moved to Adossat End of 2026 WTCB (WTC South) closes, moving around 70 cruise calls a year. Terminal C demolition begins Spring 2027 Terminal G opens: €85 million, built and run by Royal Caribbean Group with Cruise Terminals International Second half of 2028 Demolition of Terminals A and B begins 2030 Replacement public terminal ready, capacity 7,000 passengers Terminal G covers 54,000 square metres with a 450 metre quay, long enough for the largest ships afloat, and is designed as a zero emissions building with solar panels and shore power connections. It is built specifically for homeport traffic, so if you are flying in to start a Royal Caribbean sailing from Barcelona in 2027 or later, that is likely where you check in. The practical upshot: if you read a Barcelona guide written before 2026 that tells you to walk into town from your ship, ignore it. From 2027 there is no city-centre cruise terminal left. How do you get from Barcelona airport to the cruise port? Josep Tarradellas Barcelona El Prat is about 15 kilometres (9 miles) from the port, and there is no direct train or metro to the cruise terminals. Taxi is the fastest and simplest, roughly 30 minutes depending on traffic, at a flat rate of around €45 including luggage for up to four passengers. Private transfer if you want a driver waiting in arrivals, which is worth it after a long haul flight with luggage. Public transport for the budget route: Aerobús from the airport to Plaça d'Espanya, L3 metro to Drassanes, walk to the Columbus Monument, then the T3 Portbus to your terminal. Cheap, but three changes with suitcases on embarkation morning. What can you do near the Barcelona cruise terminal? If you are short on time or the ship is only in for half a day, there is enough within reach of the shuttle drop-off to fill a few hours. Columbus Monument (Mirador de Colom). The shuttle drop-off point and the literal starting line of La Rambla. Worth the lift up for the port views. Port Cable Car (Transbordador Aeri). Connects the port area to Montjuïc hill with dramatic views over the harbour. Round trip runs about €20. Maremagnum and Barcelona Aquarium. Shopping and dining right on the water at Port Vell, an easy stop straight off the shuttle. Barceloneta Beach. The closest real beach to the port. Good for an hour of sand and sea breeze if your ship is in over lunch. Gothic Quarter. About 15 to 20 minutes on foot beyond the Columbus Monument. Narrow medieval streets, small squares and the cathedral. How I spent my day in Barcelona I sailed out of Barcelona rather than calling in for the day, so I had more time than most people get. Here is what I actually did, and what I would tell you to prioritise if your ship is only in for eight hours. The sunset cruise the night before was my favourite thing in Barcelona . Not the cathedral, not the football. If you are flying in a day early to embark, do this. You get the city and the coastline from the water in the best light of the day, and it costs a fraction of anything similar you would book as a ship excursion. It is the one thing on this list I would tell someone not to skip. Sagrada Familia . Pre-book it. I did, and it is the difference between walking in and not getting in at all. Tickets are timed and digital only and they sell out well ahead, so this is not something you sort out on the morning. I filmed the whole thing, so if you want to see what you actually get for your ticket before you commit, the walkthrough is on my channel. Mercat de la Boqueria. I had tapas here and it was very good. It is right off La Rambla so it slots into any city walk without a detour, and it is a better lunch than anything you will find on the main drag itself. Camp Nou and the FC Barcelona museum. Honest verdict: good if you are into football. If you are not, this is the one to cut. It is a trek out from the centre and it will eat a big chunk of a port day, which is a lot to spend on a stadium tour you are lukewarm about. Football fans will love it. Everyone else, go to Sagrada Familia instead. Plaça de Catalunya and La Rambla. I walked this myself rather than paying for a guided tour, and it was good. Save your money here. It is a straight line from Plaça de Catalunya down to the Columbus Monument, it is impossible to get lost, and the Gothic Quarter is right there when you want to duck off the main street. A paid walking tour of this stretch is one of the easier things to skip. So if you only have one port day: Sagrada Familia, pre-booked, then walk La Rambla down to La Boqueria for lunch and finish in the Gothic Quarter. That is a full, comfortable day that does not have you sprinting for the shuttle. Camp Nou only if football is your thing. And if you are in town the night before, the sunset cruise beats all of it. What are the best day trips from Barcelona cruise port? Three realistic options, and you can only do one. Montserrat Monastery. The classic Barcelona day trip and doable on a single port day. Metro to Plaça Espanya, then the R5 train to Aeri de Montserrat or Monistrol de Montserrat (about an hour), then a cable car or rack railway up the mountain. Round-trip train plus cable car runs around €26. Budget at least five hours door to door independently, and aim to be back at the ship two hours before all aboard. Girona or Figueres . For art and medieval streets rather than mountains. High speed trains from Barcelona Sants reach Girona in about 40 minutes, with its walled old town and cathedral steps. Figueres, home to the Dalí Theatre-Museum, is roughly 1 to 1.5 hours by direct train. Pick one, not both, if you are working around a cruise schedule. Sitges . The low-effort option if you just want beach time and a change of pace from the city. Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each way by train from Barcelona Sants or Passeig de Gràcia. For any of these, remember you are adding the transfer from the port into central Barcelona first, so pad your schedule. Cruise line excursions build that buffer in for you, which is worth the premium if your port day is tight. Barcelona cruise port: frequently asked questions Where do cruise ships dock in Barcelona? Almost all cruise ships dock at Moll Adossat (the Adossat Quay), which has terminals A, B, C, D, E and H, with Terminal G opening in 2027. Moll Adossat sits 1 to 2.5 miles south of the city centre. One terminal, WTCB, is on the Barcelona quay near the Columbus Monument, but it closes at the end of 2026. Is Barcelona a tender port? No. Barcelona is an alongside port, so your ship berths directly at a terminal and you walk off the gangway onto the quay. There is no tendering. Can you walk from Barcelona cruise terminal to the city centre? From WTCB, yes, about 15 minutes along the marina promenade to the bottom of La Rambla. From the Moll Adossat terminals it is 1 to 2.5 miles along a working port road with little shade, taking 25 to 45 minutes, and most passengers take the shuttle instead. WTCB closes at the end of 2026, after which walking is not a realistic option from any terminal. How much is the Barcelona cruise port shuttle bus? The T3 Portbus costs €3 for a single trip and €4.50 return, bought from the driver. It loops continuously between the Moll Adossat terminals and the Columbus Monument, takes about 10 minutes, and is wheelchair accessible. Your metro card or T10 pass is not valid on it. Which terminal will my ship use in Barcelona? It depends on the cruise line and can change close to sailing. Terminals D and E serve Carnival Corporation brands including Carnival, Costa, AIDA and Princess. MSC uses its dedicated Terminal H. Royal Caribbean currently uses Terminals A and B, moving to the new Terminal G from 2027. Always check the terminal letter printed on your boarding pass. Is Barcelona cruise port closing? No, but it is shrinking from seven cruise terminals to five under a July 2025 agreement between the Port of Barcelona and Barcelona City Council. WTCB closes at the end of 2026, Terminal C is demolished from late 2026, and Terminals A and B come down from the second half of 2028. When does Barcelona Terminal G open? Spring 2027. It is an €85 million terminal built and operated by Royal Caribbean Group with Cruise Terminals International, covering 54,000 square metres with a 450 metre quay, designed mainly for cruises that start and end in Barcelona. How far is Barcelona airport from the cruise port? About 15 kilometres (9 miles), roughly 30 minutes by taxi depending on traffic, at a flat rate of around €45 for up to four passengers including luggage. There is no direct train or metro from the airport to the terminals. How long do you need in Barcelona on a port day? Allow around an hour of your day for transfers in and out of the port. A typical 8am to 6pm call leaves roughly eight usable hours, enough for either one major sight plus a wander, or a single day trip such as Montserrat. Trying to fit Sagrada Familia, Park Güell and Camp Nou into one call is not realistic. Do you need to book Sagrada Familia tickets in advance from a cruise? Yes. Entry is timed and digital only, and slots routinely sell out days or weeks ahead. There are no walk-up tickets at the gate. Book before you sail and choose a slot that leaves plenty of margin before all aboard. I pre-booked mine and it is the one booking I would not leave to chance. How much is a taxi from Barcelona cruise port to the city centre? Around €25 from the terminal into town, taking roughly 10 minutes. Taxi ranks sit directly outside every terminal. Split between three or four passengers it works out cheaper than the €3 per person shuttle, and it drops you exactly where you want rather than at the Columbus Monument. Is Camp Nou worth visiting on a cruise port day? Only if you are genuinely interested in football. The FC Barcelona museum and stadium tour are good, but it is a long way out from the centre and it will take a substantial chunk of an eight hour port day. If football is not your thing, spend that time on Sagrada Familia and the Gothic Quarter instead. Do you need a guided walking tour of La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter? No. La Rambla runs in a straight line from Plaça de Catalunya down to the Columbus Monument, and the Gothic Quarter sits immediately off it, so this stretch is easy to walk unguided. I did it myself and it worked well. Save the money for something you cannot do on your own. Related Video

Because she carries fewer than 1,400 guests, she can navigate into smaller, more interesting ports—such as the heart of the Norwegian Fjords or narrow European rivers—that massive modern resort ships simply cannot reach. If you value space, excellent food, immersive itineraries, and a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere, the Fred Olsen Borealis is waiting to welcome you aboard. 8 Insider Tips & Secrets for Sailing on the Fred Olsen Borealis Want to cruise like a pro? Here are a few insider hacks and lesser-known features aboard the Borealis that will upgrade your experience: The "Secret" Balcony Alternative: If you want the views and fresh air of a balcony without the higher price tag, book an Ocean View Cabin on the Promenade Deck. You get a massive picture window to let the light in, and the sprawling outdoor deck is just steps away—meaning you can be outside enjoying the sea breeze in seconds. Terrace Cabin Perks: If you do book a Terrace Cabin, take advantage of the dedicated wooden sun loungers placed directly outside your sliding glass doors on the Promenade Deck. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy the ship's classic teak decks while still having your own reserved space. Don't Skip Vasco: While the main dining rooms are excellent, you must book a table at Vasco. This specialty restaurant, named after the explorer Vasco da Gama, serves an incredible, fresh take on Indian cuisine inspired by chefs from Goa. Many past guests rate it as one of the best specialty restaurants at sea. The Best Seat in the House: For panoramic views, head straight to The Observatory. Located high at the front of the ship, it’s the ultimate spot to grab a pre-dinner cocktail, listen to the resident pianist, and watch the world go by through floor-to-ceiling windows. The Daily Times Pocket Hack: Every evening, you’ll receive the Daily Times newsletter in your cabin. Look closely—there is a convenient tear-off slip with the day’s schedule that you can rip off and keep in your pocket so you don't have to carry the whole paper around. The Magnetic Door Trick: The walls and doors in the cabins (especially the bathroom doors) are metallic. Bring a few small magnetic clips from home to stick your daily planner, shore excursion tickets, and invitations to the door so you never lose them. Unique Smoking Policy: Borealis is one of the few cruise ships left in the world that still permits guests to smoke on their private cabin balconies. If you are a smoker, this is a massive perk. If you are highly sensitive to smoke, you may want to factor this in when choosing your cabin location. Complimentary Room Service: Unlike many contemporary cruise lines that have started charging delivery fees, Fred Olsen still offers complimentary room service. Treat yourself to breakfast in bed or late-night snacks without worrying about a bill. Fred Olsen Borealis Deck Plans Preview Fred Olsen Borealis PDF Brochure. Bar Silver Dawn Suites Dining & Entertainment Despite accommodating fewer than 600 guests, the Silver Dawn boasts an impressive eight distinctive dining venues. You’ll never lack variety, whether you’re in the mood for fine French gastronomy at La Dame, authentic Italian at La Terrazza, or premium steaks at The Grill (which transforms into a signature "hot rocks" dining experience under the stars). When the sun goes down, guests can enjoy sophisticated evening entertainment in the Venetian Lounge, test their luck at the casino, or relax with panoramic ocean views and live piano music in the Observation Lounge. The 8 Dining Venues of Silver Dawn For a ship of its size (under 600 passengers), offering eight distinct dining venues is an extraordinary feat. Six of these are completely complimentary, allowing guests to travel the culinary world without ever leaving the ship. Atlantide: The ship's elegant main dining room. Expect an extensive menu featuring premium seafood (like royal crab and blue lobster) alongside perfectly prepared steaks. S.A.L.T. Kitchen: A truly unique venue where the menu changes almost daily to reflect the exact port or region the ship is currently visiting. La Terrazza: A celebration of authentic Italian gastronomy. By day, it offers a lavish indoor/outdoor buffet with an olive oil cellar and mozzarella bar. By night, it transforms into an upscale à la carte Italian restaurant. Kaiseki: A beautiful venue celebrating the precision of Japanese cuisine. Enjoy complimentary sushi and sashimi during the day, or book a table in the evening for a theatrical, multi-course omakase experience (evening dining carries a small fee). La Dame: Silversea’s signature fine-dining French restaurant. With crisp white linens, oceanview windows, and impeccable white-glove service, it is the ultimate special-occasion venue (reservations carry a $60 fee per guest). Silver Note: A sophisticated supper club offering tapas-style international dishes paired with live jazz and blues music in an intimate, moody setting. The Grill: Located by the pool, this venue serves relaxed burgers and salads by day. At night, it becomes a "hot rocks" experience where guests can cook their own premium meats and seafood on heated volcanic lava stones directly at their table. Spaccanapoli: The spot for relaxed, authentic Neapolitan pizza served poolside. Silver Dawn Silver Dawn Silver Note 5 Insider Tips for the Silversea Silver Dawn 1. The Best Vantage Points for Photography and Viewing For those looking to capture stunning port departures or wide-angle shots of other vessels at sea, the Observation Lounge on Deck 11 (forward) is unmatched. It offers a quiet, panoramic vantage point right above the bridge. Alternatively, the outdoor aft decks provide unobstructed wake views, making them the perfect locations for setting up a tripod to shoot time-lapses of sail-aways. 2. Take Advantage of the Complimentary Kaiseki Lunch Many cruisers see that Kaiseki (the Japanese restaurant) carries a dining fee and skip it entirely. However, that premium fee only applies to the evening omakase dinner service. During the day, Kaiseki serves incredibly fresh, high-quality sushi and sashimi for lunch—and it is completely complimentary. 3. Book the S.A.L.T. Lab Immediately Upon Embarkation The interactive cooking classes in the S.A.L.T. Lab are a highlight of the Silver Dawn, allowing guests to learn regional recipes with expert chefs. Because these sessions are hands-on, the room capacity is extremely limited (usually around 12 stations). These classes are free, but they book up incredibly fast. Secure your spot on the very first day. 4. Leverage Your Butler for the Ultimate Balcony Experience Every suite has a butler, but many guests don't realize the full extent of what they can request. If you want to enjoy an early morning room-service breakfast while watching the ship pull into a new port, ask your butler to set it up on your private teak veranda. They will even bring you warm blankets to wrap up in if the ocean breeze is crisp. 5. Ask for the "Secret" S.A.L.T. Bar Menu The S.A.L.T. Bar is an intimate, dark, and moody venue tucked away on Deck 4. While they can make any classic cocktail you desire, the true magic happens when you ask the mixologists for their regional specialties. The menu completely changes depending on the country you are sailing past, utilizing local spirits, bitters, and botanicals that you won't find anywhere else on the ship. Instead of one massive dining hall, the Apex features four complimentary main dining rooms, each highlighting a different regional cuisine (Italian, French, Mediterranean, and Contemporary American). Raw on 5: A sophisticated sushi and seafood bar. Le Petit Chef: An unforgettable dining experience where 3D animation brings your tabletop to life before your food arrives. Eden Restaurant: An experiential menu inspired by nature. Entertainment & Wellness When the sun goes down, the Grand Plaza—a three-story, Italian-inspired atrium featuring the famous Martini Bar—becomes the energetic heart of the ship, complete with flair bartenders and live music. For jaw-dropping productions, the Apex Theater utilizes a 20-foot 4K LED screen and a wrap-around stage to put the audience right in the middle of the action. If you prefer to dance, The Club acts as an interactive game space by day and a high-energy, DJ-fueled nightclub after dark. Those looking to relax can retreat to The Spa, a sprawling wellness sanctuary offering over 120 treatments and the expansive SEA Thermal Suite, which includes a salt room, crystalarium, and rainfall water therapy. Celebrity Apex Insider Tips & Hidden Secrets: Cruise Like a Pro Sailing on a ship as technologically advanced and uniquely designed as the Celebrity Apex comes with a learning curve. While the ship is stunning at first glance, the most seasoned cruisers know that the best experiences require a few insider hacks. Whether you want to avoid the crowds, score free gourmet food, or unlock hidden features in your stateroom, these insider secrets will completely elevate your Celebrity Apex vacation. 1. Ditch the Buffet: The Eden Café Secret On embarkation day and busy sea-day mornings, the Oceanview Café buffet can get incredibly hectic. Instead of fighting the crowds, head to the back of the ship on Deck 5 to Eden Café. The Secret: It is completely complimentary (free) for breakfast and lunch, yet a huge percentage of passengers don’t realize it until day four or five. What you get: Gourmet breakfast paninis, fresh-baked pastries, chopped salads, and specialized sandwiches in a serene, plant-filled atmosphere with floor-to-ceiling ocean views. 2. Master the Four Main Dining Rooms (MDR) Unlike traditional ships with one massive dining room, the Apex splits its complimentary dining into four smaller, themed venues: Cyprus, Normandie, Tuscan, and Cosmopolitan. Each has its own distinct decor and exclusive regional menu items (about 25% of the menu changes per restaurant, while the rest remains standard fleet-wide favorites). The Hack: You are never locked into just one. If you have "Celebrity Select Dining" (flexible timing), you can reserve a table at a different venue each night. The Menu Trick: If you are dining in the Tuscan room but secretly craving the French-inspired beef tenderloin from Normandie, just ask your waiter. The kitchens are connected, and the staff will frequently accommodate cross-menu requests if asked politely! 3. Order the Exclusive "Magic Carpet" Drink The iconic, cantilevered orange platform that hangs over the side of the ship features its own fully stocked bar. But if you order a standard rum and coke here, you are missing out. The Secret: The Magic Carpet has a signature cocktail that you literally cannot order at any other bar on the ship. Ask for the "Magic Spritz." It is a bright orange, incredibly refreshing blend of Aperol, Campari, and Prosecco. Pro View Tip: Try to visit the Magic Carpet right at golden hour when the ship is sailing westward. Because the platform sits completely outside the ship's superstructure, it offers the absolute best, unobstructed sunset views at sea. 4. Bypass the Café al Bacio Line Café al Bacio is the undisputed heart of the ship for specialty coffees, gelatos, and pastries. Because of this, the morning queue can look intimidatingly long. The Hack: Don't stand in line. If you can snag one of the plush lounge chairs or tables surrounding the café, take a seat. The area is fully staffed with table-service waiters who will take your espresso order and bring it directly to you, completely bypassing the counter line. Bonus Fact: All the cakes, giant cookies, and pastries in the glass display case are 100% free, even if you don't buy a premium coffee. 5. Override Your Stateroom's "Eco-Mode" AC If you are staying in an Infinite Veranda cabin, the room is packed with smart-tech automation. However, the ship defaults to a "Go Green" setting designed to save energy. The Secret: When the ship senses you have left the cabin, the system automatically dials your thermostat up by 2 degrees and drops the blinds. If you love returning to a crisp, ice-cold room after a hot day in port, you need to go into your stateroom’s touchscreen settings (or use the Celebrity App) and manually turn off the "Go Green" mode. Hidden Feature: The bathroom mirrors in the Edge-class staterooms are gently heated from behind. You will never have to wipe away steam after a hot shower. 6. Play the Pre-Cruise "Cancel and Rebook" Game Celebrity’s online Cruise Planner platform is notorious for fluctuating prices on add-ons like Wi-Fi, drink packages, and shore excursions. The Hack: Check the portal every week in the 30 to 60 days leading up to your sail date. Celebrity frequently runs unannounced flash sales dropping prices by 10% to 50%. If you already bought a package at full price, you can easily cancel it for a 100% refund to your credit card within the app and immediately rebook it at the lower sale price. • Virgin Scarlet Lady | Cruise Ships Guide

Explore the Virgin Scarlet Lady cruise guide for an unforgettable journey. Discover tips and insights for your Virgin Scarlet Lady adventure. Scarlet Lady Discover the Scarlet Lady: A New Era of Adult-Only Cruising If you are looking for a cruise vacation that breaks all the traditional rules, look no further than Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady. As the highly anticipated inaugural ship of the Virgin Voyages fleet, the Scarlet Lady has completely redefined the modern cruise experience. Say goodbye to crowded buffets, forced formal nights, and screaming children, and say hello to an exclusive, adult-by-design (18+) luxury escape at sea. Whether you are a seasoned sailor or a first-time cruiser, here is everything you need to know about stepping aboard the Scarlet Lady. Dining on the Scarlet Lady: No Buffets Allowed One of the most revolutionary aspects of the Scarlet Lady cruise ship is its approach to food. There are no massive dining halls, no assigned seating times, and absolutely no buffets. Instead, the ship feels like a floating city of high-end restaurants, all cooked to order. Must-Try Restaurants Onboard: The Wake: The ship's glamorous steak and seafood venue, featuring a dramatic staircase entrance and incredible views of the ship's trail. Pink Agave: An upscale Mexican eatery boasting the largest collection of mezcal and tequila at sea. Gunbae: A high-energy Korean BBQ restaurant where your food is cooked right at your table, complete with complimentary drinking games. Razzle Dazzle: A vibrant, vegetarian-forward restaurant that also offers "naughty" meat-based sides and incredible craft cocktails. The Galley: The ship’s food-hall concept featuring dedicated stations for tacos, sushi, burgers, and 24-hour breakfast, replacing the traditional cruise buffet. Cabins and Suites: Modern Luxury at Sea The Scarlet Lady cabins are designed with smart technology, modern aesthetics, and comfort in mind. From cozy interior rooms to sprawling luxury suites, there is an accommodation level for every traveler. The Sea Terrace: The most popular cabin category on the ship. These balcony rooms feature mood lighting, a transformative "Seabed" that converts into a sofa during the day, and the iconic hand-woven red hammock on the balcony—perfect for watching the sunset. RockStar Quarters: If you want VIP treatment, upgrade to a suite. "RockStars" get exclusive access to Richard's Rooftop (a private VIP deck), priority boarding, and early access to dining and entertainment reservations. Virgin Voyages Rockstar Suite Scarlet Night: The Ultimate Party at Sea You cannot write about the Resilient Lady without mentioning Scarlet Night. This is the marquee event of every Virgin Voyage, and it takes over the entire ship. Conceived by award-winning theater producers, Scarlet Night is part immersive theater, part massive pool party. The ship is bathed in red light, pop-up circus performances happen in the hallways, and the entire night culminates in a massive, high-energy dance party on the pool deck. The Dress Code: Everyone is encouraged to pack an outfit with a splash of red. Some people go all out in red sequin gowns, while others keep it simple with a red t-shirt or accessory. The Vibe: It is inclusive, wildly energetic, and feels more like a private music festival than a traditional cruise ship deck party. Virgin Voyages Scarlet Night Virgin Voyages Scarlet Night Virgin Voyages Scarlet Night Entertainment & Nightlife Virgin Voyages is famous for its festival-like entertainment. You won't find traditional Broadway-style productions here; instead, the Scarlet Lady offers immersive, interactive, and boundary-pushing shows. The Red Room: The first transformative, multi-form theater at sea. The seating configuration changes depending on the show, ranging from immersive acrobatic performances to late-night dance parties. The Manor: A stunning, two-story nightclub inspired by Richard Branson's history in the music industry. Scarlet Night: The signature ship-wide party. The entire ship is illuminated in red, featuring pop-up circus performances, live music, and an epic pool party. (Pro tip: Pack a red outfit!) 7 Insider Secrets Most First-Time Sailors Miss 1. The "Pre-Boarding" Wi-Fi Hack Don't wait until you are in your cabin to book your shows and fitness classes. Often, you can connect to the Scarlet Lady's Wi-Fi while you are still waiting in the terminal at PortMiami. The second you connect, open the Virgin Voyages app and start booking your high-demand reservations (like the Bungee class or the Duel Reality show) before anyone else even steps foot on the ship. 2. How to Waive the Room Service Fee Virgin Voyages offers incredible room service (called "Ship Eats"), but there is a flat $7 delivery fee. The Hack: Order any paid item with your food—like a $5 premium coffee, a Red Bull, or a beer. If you order a paid drink, the $7 delivery fee is completely waived! 3. Secret Menus and Half-Portions The dining on board is unlimited, and you should take full advantage of it: Extra Virgin (Italian): You don't have to choose just one pasta dish. Ask your server for "half portions" so you can sample the entire pasta menu without getting uncomfortably full. Test Kitchen: If you are on a longer sailing or just want to eat here twice, ask for the "Second Menu." They have a completely different, unadvertised experimental menu for repeat guests. The Dock: Look out for the hidden dessert cart inside The Dock House; they have amazing shortbread cookies and lemon curd that aren't listed on the standard menus. 4. The Hidden Magic Show Not all shows are listed in the main schedule. Keep an eye out for a smaller, afternoon magic or mentalist show hosted by a Happenings Cast member known as "The Charmer." If you attend and interact, you might be handed a physical card inviting you to a top-secret, invite-only magic show held later that night deep in the belly of the ship. 5. The Aft Hot Tubs on Deck 16 The main pool area on Deck 15 can get loud and crowded, especially on sea days. Instead, head up to Deck 16 Aft (near the Athletic Club). The hot tubs tucked away back here are almost always empty, they have great jets, and they tend to be kept a bit hotter than the ones by the main pool. 6. Balcony Hammock Storage Trick The red hammocks on the Sea Terrace balconies are iconic, but they take up a lot of space if you just want to stand at the railing. You don't have to call your room steward to take it down—you can easily unclip one end of the hammock and hook it to the other side to instantly open up your entire balcony. 7. Bring Your Own Wine Virgin Voyages allows you to bring up to two 750ml bottles of wine or champagne per cabin in your carry-on luggage. You can open it in your room for free, or pay a small $25 corkage fee to drink it at a restaurant (which can be paid using your pre-purchased Bar Tab). MS Eurodam Rooms Insider Tips & Hidden Gems for the MS Eurodam Want to cruise like a seasoned Holland America Line expert? Beyond the main attractions, the MS Eurodam holds a few well-kept secrets that can elevate your vacation from great to unforgettable. Here are our top insider hacks for sailing on the Eurodam: 1. The "Secret" Deck Behind Tamarind If you are looking for a tranquil escape away from the busy Lido pool, head up to Deck 11. Just behind the Tamarind restaurant, there is a small, easily missed outdoor deck space that only fits a few lounge chairs. Most passengers never find it, making it the perfect private sanctuary for reading or watching the sunset. 2. Dining Hacks: The Main Dining Room vs. The Buffet Don't feel like dressing up for formal night, but still want a gourmet meal? You are in luck. Many of the exact same dishes being served in the Main Dining Room (including the decadent desserts) are available at the casual Lido Market buffet on the same evening. 3. Tamarind Bar: The Best Views on the Ship While everyone flocks to the Crow's Nest or the Ocean Bar for pre-dinner drinks, the bar adjacent to the Tamarind restaurant (formerly known as the Silk Den) is a true hidden gem. It offers incredible, panoramic ocean views, a remarkably quiet atmosphere early in the cruise, and unique Asian-inspired craft cocktails. Try the jalapeño martini! 4. Skip the Line at Dive-In The gourmet burgers and fries at Dive-In are arguably the best complimentary poolside food at sea, which means the lunch line can get incredibly long. Insider Hack: Use the free Holland America Line Navigator App on your phone to order your food ahead of time. You can skip the line entirely and just walk up when your order is ready. 5. Complimentary Dining Room Room Service Unlike many modern cruise lines that charge hefty fees for room service, much of Holland America's room service remains free. Even better, during dinner hours, you can actually order items straight from that evening's Main Dining Room menu to be delivered directly to your stateroom at no extra charge. It is the ultimate luxury for a cozy night in. 6. Book The Retreat Cabanas Immediately If you want to feel like royalty, you can rent a private, tented cabana in The Retreat (Deck 11). They come with padded loungers, fresh fruit, chilled water, afternoon champagne, and dedicated attendants. Pro-Tip: Book these the moment you board the ship at the front desk, as they sell out fast. Request a cabana facing the Lido pool rather than the sides of the ship, as the side cabanas are blocked by plexiglass and don't get as much of the ocean breeze. 7. Strategic Specialty Dining Reservations The Pinnacle Grill and Tamarind are incredibly popular, but seasoned cruisers know a booking secret: most passengers default to the Main Dining Room for the first 3 or 4 days of the cruise before getting restless. If you book your specialty dining reservations for the beginning of the cruise, you will have your pick of the best tables and times. (Ask for Table 17 in Tamarind it's widely considered the best table for two!). MS Eurodam Deck Plans Preview MS Eurodam PDF Brochure. • Cruise Ship Incidents 2026: Every Incident So Far

Every cruise ship incident logged in 2026, newest first. Fires, groundings, cancellations and what each one meant for passengers. Updated 4 September 2026. Cruise Ship Incidents 2026: What Has Actually Happened The most recent cruise ship incident was aboard Norwegian Prima on 3 September 2026, when three passengers were diagnosed with Legionnaires' disease and NCL began working with the CDC. This page logs operational cruise ship incidents in 2026: the fires, groundings, mechanical failures, weather cancellations and port problems that actually change someone's sailing. Last updated 4 September 2026. So here is the thing about cruise ship incident news. Most of what you find is either a database with no context, or a list of the worst disasters in history that has nothing to do with the cruise you booked for next month. Neither tells you the thing you actually want to know, which is: does this affect me, and what happens now? That is what this page is for. It gets updated as things happen. In this article What was the most recent cruise ship incident? Cruise ship incidents 2026: the log What counts as a cruise ship incident here? Which cruise line has had the most incidents in 2026? How common are cruise ship incidents, really? What happens to your cruise when there is an incident? How do you check whether your ship has had a problem? Frequently asked questions What was the most recent cruise ship incident? As of 4 September 2026, the most recent logged incident is the Legionnaires' disease investigation aboard Norwegian Prima, reported on 3 September. Three passengers were diagnosed and Norwegian Cruise Line is working with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The two before that were both operational rather than medical. On 2 September, Carnival Splendor changed the Cairns portion of its 9 September Australian sailing because reduced channel depths meant the ship could not get in. And on 31 August, Carnival Breeze picked up minor exterior hull damage while docking at Cozumel . None of those three cancelled anyone's cruise. That is genuinely typical, and it is the single most useful thing to understand about this whole category. Cruise ship incidents 2026: the log Newest first. This covers ocean and river cruise ships, and it is not exhaustive, but it captures the incidents that made it into public reporting. Look down that "cruise affected" column. Out of 17 logged incidents, three cancelled sailings outright, and two of those three were river cruises hit by drought rather than anything that went wrong with a ship. What counts as a cruise ship incident here? Operational things that change how a ship sails or what happens to the people on it. Fires, groundings, collisions and contact damage, propulsion and mechanical failures, medical evacuations, weather cancellations, port closures and refusals, illness outbreaks, and low water on the rivers. Two categories deliberately left out. Deaths, overboard cases and missing persons. These are real people and real families, and there are sites that track them properly. I would rather not turn a fatality into a table row for traffic. If that is what you came for, the US Department of Transportation publishes cruise line incident reports under the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act. Crime aboard. Arrests, assaults and investigations get reported by outlets with legal desks. They are not operational incidents and they will not change your sailing. Ferries are out too, unless a cruise ship was involved. A ferry capsizing in Southeast Asia is a serious maritime story and it has nothing to do with whether your Caribbean cruise is fine. Which cruise line has had the most incidents in 2026? On the log above, Carnival Cruise Line appears most often with three entries: Valor, Breeze and Splendor. Norwegian Cruise Line has two, Prima and Sun. Royal Caribbean has two, Spectrum and Wonder. But be careful with that, because it is close to meaningless on its own. Carnival operates around 27 ships and carries more passengers than anyone. More ships, more sailings, more chances for something to be reported. A raw count rewards the small lines for being small. The honest version: no mainstream line stands out as unusually accident prone in 2026. What stands out this year is not a cruise line at all. It is the European rivers, where drought has done more damage to more holidays than every mechanical failure on the list combined. How common are cruise ship incidents, really? Rare enough that the ones that happen make international news, which is exactly why they feel more common than they are. Roughly 30 million people take a cruise each year. Set that against the log above and you get a sense of the scale. Even counting generously, we are talking about a couple of dozen publicly reported operational incidents across the entire global fleet in a year, most of which delayed a port call rather than ended a holiday. The Carnival Valor case is the one worth holding onto. It produced the most alarming video of the year: pool water sheeting across the deck, passengers shouting, the whole thing looking like the ship was going over. The actual outcome was no serious injuries, no damage to the ship, and an on time arrival in New Orleans. I broke that one down in full here , because the gap between how it looked and what happened is the whole lesson. What happens to your cruise when there is an incident? Almost always: the ship keeps sailing and something in the itinerary moves. That is the default response across every line. The order of preference, from what lines actually do rather than what they promise: Swap a port. Cheapest and most common. Cairns becomes somewhere else, and you find out by letter under your cabin door. Change the route or the timing. Sail slower, arrive later, skip the tender port because the swell is up. Delay embarkation. You still sail, just not on the day printed on your ticket. Substitute the ship. Standard practice on the rivers now. You get bussed past the shallow stretch to an identical sister ship. Cancel. Genuinely the last resort, and rare enough to be newsworthy when it happens. If a port gets dropped, you are owed the port fees and taxes for that port back, and that is usually automatic as onboard credit or a refund to your card. Anything beyond that is goodwill, not obligation. Here is what actually happens when weather threatens your sailing , which covers the compensation side in more detail. How do you check whether your ship has had a problem? Four places, in the order I would actually check them. Your cruise line's app and your email. Boring answer, but itinerary changes land there first, often before anyone reports them. Turn notifications on. This page. Updated as things happen, with the context of what it means for a booking. The CDC Vessel Sanitation Program for illness specifically. It publishes outbreak reports and inspection scores per ship. I track the gastro side separately on the 2026 norovirus outbreak tracker . CruiseMapper's accident database if you want the raw historical record for a specific ship going back years. It is a database rather than an explanation, but it is thorough. And if you are on a river cruise this year, the Rhine and Danube water level page is the one to watch, not this one. That is where the disruption actually is in 2026. Frequently asked questions What was the most recent cruise ship accident? The most recent logged incident is the Legionnaires' disease investigation aboard Norwegian Prima on 3 September 2026, where three passengers were diagnosed and NCL is working with the CDC. The most recent physical incident was minor hull damage to Carnival Breeze while docking at Cozumel on 31 August 2026. What happened on a cruise ship recently? In the last week: a Legionnaires' investigation on Norwegian Prima, an itinerary change on Carnival Splendor because Cairns channel depths dropped too low, and minor docking damage to Carnival Breeze at Cozumel. None of the three cancelled a sailing. When was the last major cruise ship accident? Nothing in 2026 qualifies as a major accident in the sense of loss of life or loss of a ship. The most dramatic was Carnival Valor listing on the Mississippi River on 17 August 2026 after a hard turn to avoid a disabled cargo ship, and even that produced no serious injuries and no damage. What cruise line has had the most incidents? Carnival appears most often in 2026 with three logged incidents, but Carnival also operates the most ships and carries the most passengers, so a raw count is misleading. No mainstream line is an outlier for safety this year. Are cruise ships being cancelled today? Not as a general rule. Outright cancellations are rare. In 2026 the main cause has been low water on the Rhine and Danube, where Riviera Travel cancelled 10 river departures in August, plus one Royal Caribbean cancellation in Shanghai when Super Typhoon Bavi closed the port. How often do cruise ships have accidents? Publicly reported operational incidents run at roughly a couple of dozen a year across the entire global fleet, against about 30 million passengers annually. Most involve a changed port or a delayed departure rather than anything dangerous. What happens if my cruise ship has a mechanical problem? The most likely outcome is a slower sailing and one dropped port. You get the port fees and taxes for the missed port refunded, usually automatically. Full cancellation with a refund plus future cruise credit only happens when the ship cannot sail at all. Do cruise lines have to report incidents? Yes, for ships operating from US ports. The Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act requires lines to report serious incidents to the FBI and the US Coast Guard, and the Department of Transportation publishes summary data. Illness outbreaks go to the CDC Vessel Sanitation Program. Is it safe to book a cruise in 2026? Yes. The risk worth planning around this year is not safety, it is itinerary disruption, and specifically on European rivers. If you are booking a Rhine or Danube sailing between July and September, check the water levels before you pay a deposit. Ocean cruising in 2026 has been unremarkable, which is the good outcome. How do I find out if my specific ship has had an incident? Search this page for the ship name first, then check CruiseMapper's per ship accident history for anything older. For illness specifically, the CDC Vessel Sanitation Program publishes outbreak reports and inspection scores by ship.
