Highlighting the Arcadia’s recent updates assures your readers that they are booking a premium, well-maintained ship. Following a multi-million-pound investment phase that culminated in a comprehensive drydock refit in November 2024, the P&O Arcadia emerged looking more stylish than ever. The upgrades focused on modernizing the ship while retaining its classic, timeless elegance: Cabin Upgrades: Accommodations received a fresh, soothing colour palette of greys and blues, along with new carpets, updated balcony furniture, and refreshed soft furnishings. Revitalized Lounges: Popular venues like The Crow’s Nest and The Piano Bar were updated with contemporary upholstery and carpets in smart blues, taupes, and caramels. The Neptune Pool: The ship's central pool area received a major seating upgrade, with brand-new luxury loungers, sofas, and armchairs for ultimate sea-day relaxation. Public Spaces: The magnificent multi-tier Atrium, the Palladium Theatre, and various lift lobbies were refreshed with new decking, carpets, and a vibrant new aesthetic. P&O Arcadia Rooms Hidden Gems on the P&O Arcadia To make your website stand out from generic travel brochures, highlight these specific, intimate details that returning passengers love about this ship: The Screening Room: Unlike massive multiplexes on mega-ships, Arcadia features a boutique, 30-seat cinema. It offers an incredibly intimate setting to watch a mix of classic films and recent releases, complete with comfortable seating. A Floating Art Gallery: The ship houses an enviable collection of over 3,000 pieces of British fine art. Guests can explore the collection at their own pace or attend lively art auctions in The Globe. Classic Promenade Deck: Cruising purists will love the traditional wrap-around promenade deck. It is perfect for an uninterrupted morning jog, a romantic evening stroll, or simply pulling up a deck chair to watch the ocean roll by. P&O Arcadia Insider Tips & Hidden Secrets Choose Your Cabin Wisely (The Balcony Secret) If you want the ultimate balcony experience without paying for a full suite, look specifically for an Aft Balcony on D Deck (such as cabin D184). These specific cabins feature balconies that are significantly deeper than standard port or starboard rooms, giving you panoramic wake views and room for actual sun loungers rather than just upright chairs. Insider Advice: Avoid A Deck if you want total quiet. These cabins are located directly beneath the Lido deck, meaning you might hear sun loungers being dragged early in the morning, and the overhang from the pool deck can cast shade over your balcony. The Ultimate Ship Spotting Locations For cruisers who love to observe vessel movements and port operations, the Arcadia offers some fantastic vantage points. Grab a window seat in The Crow’s Nest right at the front of the ship for elevated, climate-controlled, panoramic views as you sail into port. Alternatively, the classic wrap-around teak Promenade Deck (where three laps equal exactly one mile) is perfect for pacing the sides of the ship to capture clear photos of other vessels without glass glare. Rare Solo Balcony Cabins If your audience includes solo travelers, this is a massive selling point: Arcadia is one of the few older ships that caters incredibly well to individuals. During recent refits, P&O added dedicated Single Balcony Cabins (QF Grade) located high up on the Sun Deck. They sell out fast, but they offer the luxury of a private balcony without the dreaded single supplement penalty. The Hidden 30-Seat Cinema While modern mega-ships feature massive outdoor movie screens, the Arcadia houses a true hidden gem: The Screening Room. This intimate, 30-seat boutique cinema is tucked away on Deck 3. It screens a mix of recent blockbusters and classic films in a cozy, plush setting. Arrive early, as seats fill up quickly on sea days! The Coffee Upgrade While the free filter coffee in the Belvedere buffet is fine for a quick caffeine fix, coffee aficionados should head to Spinnaker Bar or The Piano Bar. Here, you can purchase proper barista-made Costa Coffee. If your readers plan to drink a few a day, advise them to purchase a coffee card on board to save money. Buy the Thermal Suite Pass Early The Oasis Spa Thermal Suite is the best place to be on a chilly sea day, especially on Norwegian Fjords itineraries. Passes are strictly limited to prevent overcrowding. Advise your readers to book their pass on embarkation day to secure access to the heated ceramic loungers and sensory steam rooms for the duration of the cruise. - Liberty of the Seas Guide 2026: Amplified, Galveston & Tips
Liberty of the Seas guide for 2026–27: what the Amplified refit changed, her move to Galveston, cabins, dining, tips included and FAQs answered. Liberty of the Seas Cruise Ship Guide: Everything You Need to Know (2026–27) Liberty of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's 154,407 ton Freedom Class ship, carrying around 4,546 guests, freshly Amplified in spring 2026 with Izumi, El Loco Fresh, Starbucks, The Lime & Coconut and a new escape room. After a summer in Southampton she moves to Galveston from 31 October 2026 for short Western Caribbean cruises. We sailed the Amplified Liberty of the Seas for seven nights from Southampton in 2026, in a balcony cabin. Our honest verdict: the new venues are a real step up, but the ship still needs some work in places. Everything below is updated for the 2026–27 seasons. Technical Specifications Explore the engineering and operational data of the world's most iconic cruise vessels. 154,407 GT Gross Tonnage 4,546 maximum Passenger Capacity 1,360 Crew Size 2007 Year Built Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Galveston Home Port Where Does Liberty of the Seas Sail in 2026–27? Summer 2026 – Southampton, UK (no-fly cruises) Five- to nine-night sailings from late May to October 2026, including Norwegian fjords, Northern Europe and Spain/France itineraries. Final UK cruises: 3 October (7 nights – Cherbourg, A Coruña, Bilbao, Le Havre for Paris) and 10 October (6 nights – Stavanger and Oslo). Transatlantic – 16 to 31 October 2026 A 15-night crossing from Southampton to Galveston, calling at Vigo, Lisbon and Funchal (Madeira), then eight sea days. A great option if you love sea days and want to try the ship at a lower nightly price. Winter 2026–27 and beyond – Galveston, Texas Four- and five-night Western Caribbean cruises from 31 October 2026, mainly to Cozumel and Costa Maya, with Roatán on some sailings. Royal Caribbean has confirmed Liberty stays in Galveston through 2027, alongside Icon of the Seas from August 2027. Royal Beach Club Cozumel is due to open in late 2026 – check whether your sailing includes it once it does. What's Included on Liberty of the Seas? Your Royal Caribbean fare includes: Your cabin and daily housekeeping The Main Dining Room, Windjammer buffet, Café Promenade, Sorrento's pizza and El Loco Fresh Production shows, the ice show and live music The Perfect Storm and Tidal Wave slides, FlowRider, mini golf, sports court and rock-climbing wall Adventure Ocean kids' club and the teen space Pools, whirlpools and the fitness centre Not included: specialty restaurants (Izumi, Chops Grille, Giovanni's), Starbucks, alcohol and most soft drinks, WiFi, spa treatments and shore excursions. Are tips included on Liberty of the Seas? No. Royal Caribbean adds gratuities automatically each day: $18.50 per guest per day in non-suite cabins (including Junior Suites) and $21 per guest per day in suites. An 18% service charge is added to bar drinks and specialty dining. You can prepay gratuities before you sail to lock in the current rate. Compare every major line in our 2026 cruise gratuities guide Is a drinks package worth it? Royal Caribbean's Deluxe Beverage Package covers cocktails, beer, wine, soft drinks and specialty coffee (but not Starbucks). Prices vary by sailing and are usually cheaper when bought before you cruise, so check your Cruise Planner for sales. It tends to pay off on sea days if you'll have more than five or six drinks a day; on a port-heavy itinerary it often doesn't. Everyone in the same cabin usually has to buy it. Is Liberty of the Seas Family Friendly? Yes – very. She is one of Royal Caribbean's best-value family ships, with Splashaway Bay for little ones, three big slides, a refreshed Adventure Ocean (now split into separate spaces for babies and juniors) and a teen area renamed Social040. Couples and adults will find quieter corners in the Solarium, Vintages wine bar and the specialty restaurants. What Changed in the 2026 Amplification? Liberty's Royal Amplification was planned for 2021 but postponed during the pandemic, so she was the last Freedom Class ship to get the modern venues her sisters already had. The spring 2026 refit finally closed that gap. A Caribbean-style pool deck The pool deck was redesigned with two Lime & Coconut bars, bright island décor, new whirlpools and bookable casitas (an extra charge). New places to eat and drink Izumi Hibachi & Sushi replaced Sabor Modern Mexican on Deck 4, near the Schooner Bar. El Loco Fresh (free) on Deck 11 near Splashaway Bay, with Cantina Fresca margarita bar next door. Starbucks is on Deck 4. Boleros is still there – early deck plans suggested Starbucks would replace it, but it didn't. Escape Room and a bigger casino Escape U: Art Studio – the new Royal Escape Room, entered through the Star Lounge on Deck 5, where the Connoisseur Club used to be. Casino Royale on Deck 4 expanded into the old photo gallery space. The shore excursions desk and photo gallery moved to Deck 3, outside Studio B, and the On Air karaoke lounge has gone. More cabins, less spa More than 35 new cabins were added, replacing the Deck 2 Conference Centre and the Deck 10 Card Room, plus space taken from Adventure Ocean and the spa. The free steam rooms and saunas in the fitness centre were removed. Existing cabins got little more than a light refresh. What didn't get added There's no Playmakers sports bar – the casino expansion took the space it would have needed. Liberty of the Seas Cabins and Suites Cabin type, Approx. size, What you get Interior 150–160 sq ft ,Two beds convertible to a queen; no window Promenade-view interior 1 50–160 sq ft, Bay window overlooking the Royal Promenade Ocean view 160–180 sq ft, Window or porthole; some large family ocean views Balcony 175–200 sq ft + balcony Private balcony, sofa, the most popular choice Junior Suite 290 sq ft + balconyBigger room and bathroom with bath; standard gratuity rate Grand Suite and above 380 sq ft upwards Suite perks, concierge lounge access on higher tiers Royal Suite / Owner's Suite Largest on board Separate living area, top-tier suite benefits Liberty of the Seas Restaurants Included Main Dining Room – three levels, open for breakfast, lunch on sea days and dinner. Windjammer – the buffet, now with a handwashing station at the entrance. El Loco Fresh – new in 2026, free tacos, burritos and nachos by the pool. Café Promenade – sandwiches, pastries and snacks round the clock. Sorrento's – pizza on the Royal Promenade. Specialty (extra charge) Izumi Hibachi & Sushi – new in 2026, teppanyaki tables and sushi; Royal Caribbean says it's the most popular restaurant in the fleet by volume. Chops Grille – the steakhouse. Giovanni's Italian Kitchen – family-style Italian. Johnny Rockets – diner burgers and shakes [CHECK still on board post-Amplification]. Starbucks – new in 2026, not included in drinks packages. Booking tip: Teppanyaki at Izumi sells out fast on short sailings. Book it in the Royal Caribbean app before you board, and pick an early slot on night one or two. Shows and Nightlife on Liberty of the Seas Boots and Blades – new in 2026, a country and western ice show in Studio B that replaced Encore! An Ice Spectacular. Seats fill fast, so arrive early. Platinum Theatre – headline production shows (recent guests report Saturday Night Fever [CHECK current line-up]), plus comedians and guest entertainers. Royal Promenade – parades, street parties and live music. Best bars: The Lime & Coconut by day, Boleros for Latin music and dancing at night, the Schooner Bar for piano singalongs, and Vintages if you want a quieter glass of wine. Insider Tips for Liberty of the Seas Book Izumi and Boots and Blades early. Both are the hottest tickets on board. Don't count on a free sauna. The complimentary steam room and saunas were removed in 2026. Mexican food is still on board – Sabor has gone, but El Loco Fresh is free. Prepay gratuities if you've booked well ahead – it locks in today's rate. On the transatlantic, eight sea days in a row means pool loungers go early. A balcony is worth it on this one. Liberty of the Seas FAQs Where is Liberty of the Seas sailing now? Liberty of the Seas sails from Southampton until 16 October 2026, when she crosses the Atlantic. From 31 October 2026 she is based in Galveston, Texas, sailing four- and five-night Western Caribbean cruises. Is Liberty of the Seas sailing from Southampton in 2027? No. Her sister Freedom of the Seas replaces her at Southampton from May to October 2027, while Liberty stays in Galveston. What's new on Liberty of the Seas after the 2026 Amplification? The 2026 refit added Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, El Loco Fresh, Starbucks, two Lime & Coconut bars, pool deck casitas, the Escape U: Art Studio escape room, an expanded casino, more than 35 new cabins and the Boots and Blades ice show. Are tips included on Liberty of the Seas? No. Royal Caribbean charges $18.50 per guest per day in non-suite cabins and $21 per guest per day in suites, added automatically unless you prepay. Are drinks included on Liberty of the Seas? Water, basic tea and coffee, and some juices are included. Alcohol, soft drinks and specialty coffee cost extra unless you buy a drinks package. Is WiFi free on Liberty of the Seas? No. WiFi is a paid add-on through Royal Caribbean's Voom internet packages, which are usually cheaper if bought before you sail. Does Liberty of the Seas have water slides? Yes. She has Tidal Wave, the first boomerang-style slide at sea, plus The Perfect Storm racer slides, Splashaway Bay for younger children and a FlowRider surf simulator. Is Liberty of the Seas adults only? No. Liberty of the Seas is a family ship with a kids' club, teen area and water slides, though the Solarium and specialty restaurants offer quieter, more adult spaces. What's the difference between Liberty and Freedom of the Seas? They are near-identical Freedom Class sisters. Both are now Amplified with Izumi and The Lime & Coconut, but venue layouts differ for example, Liberty kept Vintages rather than turning it into a non-smoking casino as on Freedom. Whether you are navigating the icy, majestic waters of Alaska or island-hopping through the sunny Caribbean, the Norwegian Bliss is a destination in itself. Key Norwegian Bliss Ship Stats Understanding the size and scale of the ship helps paint a picture of just how much there is to do onboard. 168,028 GT Gross Tonnage 4,004 max Passenger Capacity 1,716 Crew Size 2018 Year Built Norwegian Cruise Line Cruise Line Seattle, Washington Home Port Top Onboard Activities & Entertainment The Norwegian Bliss is famous for bringing theme-park-level attractions to the middle of the ocean. Complete with hairpin turns and a special "turbo boost" feature, it is an absolute must-do for adrenaline junkies. Open-Air Laser Tag & Aqua Park Step into an abandoned space station for a family-friendly game of open-air laser tag, which is just as fun to play at night under the stars as it is during the day. If you prefer to make a splash, head to the Aqua Park. Here you will find two massive, multi-story waterslides. The Ocean Loops slide is a free-fall drop featuring a transparent tube that extends over the actual side of the ship, while the Aqua Racer lets you race friends side-by-side on inner tubes. Award-Winning Entertainment Norwegian Cruise Line is known for its Broadway-caliber shows, and the Bliss does not disappoint. Catch a full-scale production of the hit musical Jersey Boys, or grab a cocktail and sing along to your favorite Beatles hits with a live cover band at The Cavern Club, modeled after the legendary Liverpool venue. Norwegian Bliss Norwegian Bliss Laser Tag Dining & Bars: A Culinary Journey With NCL’s signature "Freestyle Cruising," there are no set dining times and no strict formal nights. You eat when you want, where you want. The Norwegian Bliss offers an incredible array of complimentary and specialty dining venues. The Observation Lounge: A massive, 180-degree forward-facing lounge wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass. Balcony, Oceanview, and Inside Cabins: Comfortable, stylishly appointed staterooms that act as the perfect home base after a long day of exploring. Norwegian Bliss Popular Destinations & Itineraries Because the Norwegian Bliss was purposefully built with spectacular scenery in mind, it splits its time between two drastically different, yet equally beautiful, regions. Alaska (Summer): Sailing out of Seattle, the Bliss shines in the Pacific Northwest. The ship's expansive Observation Lounge and The Waterfront (an oceanfront promenade) were designed specifically to give passengers unobstructed views of bald eagles, humpback whales, and massive glaciers. The Caribbean & Mexican Riviera (Winter): When the weather turns cold, the Bliss heads south. You can find it sailing out of Miami or Los Angeles, offering sun-soaked itineraries to tropical beaches and vibrant coastal cities. Norwegian Bliss Alaska Norwegian Bliss Deep Dive: Recent Upgrades, Dining Guide, and Insider Secrets To truly maximize a vacation on the Norwegian Bliss, it helps to look beyond the standard brochure. Following its major dry dock refurbishment, NCL dramatically remodeled several spaces to maximize outdoor relaxation and premium dining. Here is what you need to know about the modern, upgraded Norwegian Bliss experience. The Upgrades: What's New Onboard? If you have read older reviews of the Bliss, you might notice mention of spaces that have since been entirely reimagined. NCL overhauled key areas of the ship to meet shifting passenger demands: The Introduction of Horizon Park Replacing the old upper-deck laser tag arena is Horizon Park, a brand-new, top-deck outdoor recreational concept. It serves as a laid-back, green-space gathering area where guests can play lawn games like cornhole and giant Jenga, or lounge in premium reclining chairs while enjoying uninterrupted, 360-degree ocean views. Expanded Dining & The Arrival of Palomar To accommodate high demand for specialty restaurants, the ship’s culinary layout received a massive upgrade: Palomar: This elegant, high-end Mediterranean seafood specialty restaurant—which originally premiered to massive acclaim on the newer Norwegian Prima—officially replaced Ocean Blue. Cagney's Steakhouse & Teppanyaki : Both fan-favorite venues were physically expanded during the dry dock, taking over neighboring spaces (like Los Lobos and Coco's) to add significantly more seating and shorten reservation waitlists. 3 Hidden Gems & Onboard Insider Secrets 1. The Waterfront is Better for Glacier Viewing Than the Observation Lounge While the indoor, 180-degree Observation Lounge is stunning, it fills up incredibly fast on Alaska itineraries. For a less crowded experience, head down to The Waterfront on Deck 8. This quarter-mile oceanfront promenade features outdoor seating for bars and restaurants, complete with heavy-duty heat lamps so you can watch glaciers or spot whales comfortably without fighting for an indoor chair. 2. Seek Out the Mandara Spa Thermal Suite For those looking to escape the high energy of the main pool deck, the Mandara Spa Thermal Suite passes are worth every penny. It features heated ceramic lounge chairs, a thalassotherapy pool, a steam room, an organic Salt Room designed to improve respiratory health, and even a Snow Room that uses cold therapy to stimulate blood circulation. 3. Escape the Crowds at Spice H2O Traveling without kids or just need a quiet afternoon? Spice H2O on Deck 17 is a complimentary, adults-only daytime retreat styled after the beach clubs of Ibiza. It features relaxing hot tubs, a cascading cooling waterfall, and plenty of sunbeds away from the main pool deck noise. At night, it transforms into an open-air dance floor under the stars. While she shares the sleek architectural DNA of older sisters like Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent, the Xcel is a new ship that introduces several reimagined public areas and exclusive concepts that can't be found elsewhere in the celebrity fleet. Among celebrity edge class ships, Xcel also adds the Celebrity Pool Club as one of its exclusive new concepts, setting it apart from other edge class ships. More exciting details are still emerging, so stay tuned. 1. The Bazaar (Evolution of Eden) Replacing the multi-story Eden venue found on earlier Edge-class ships, The Bazaar serves as a lively, destination-centric cultural hub that helps Celebrity Xcel stand out even among other Edge class ships. This transformed space features an indoor marketplace celebrating the artisan crafts, sounds, and flavors of the regions the ship visits. It features: Mosaic Restaurant: An open-kitchen venue serving elevated regional cuisine, alongside a highly exclusive Chef's Table experience and a plant-based 7-course tasting menu. Spice: A casual, beachfront-style café offering grab-and-go bites throughout the day. The Chef's Studio: Celebrity's first-ever dedicated cooking school at sea on the newest of the celebrity edge class ships, where passengers can take interactive, destination-inspired culinary classes. The Bazaar also hosts destination-inspired local festivals tied to the regions the ship visits. 2. BORA (Rooftop Garden Dining) Nestled right in the middle of the lush, open-air Rooftop Garden, BORA is the ship's new outdoor dining venue. Replacing the previous Rooftop Garden Grill concept, BORA is an alfresco restaurant focused on shareable, authentic Mediterranean dishes. It is designed to capture relaxed, romantic coastal dining under the open sky—perfect for a sunny sea-day brunch, a starlit dinner date, or an easy onboard date night. 3. Attic at The Club & The Annex Grown-up gaming gets a major upgrade in the Attic at The Club. This retro, neon-lit lounge features classic arcade games (like Pac-Man), pool tables, foosball, and darts. By day, The Club also hosts activities like trivia and dance classes. Later in the evening, the venue also lends itself to lively dance parties. For groups wanting a private experience, The Annex can be reserved as a party lounge for private gatherings, with karaoke night and advanced multi-sport simulators. 4. IYKYK Speakeasy Tucked away on board is IYKYK (If You Know, You Know), an intimate, hidden speakeasy bar serving craft cocktails in a sleek, exclusive atmosphere. Celebrity Xcel isn't just a triumph of interior design; it represents a major technical milestone for marine engineering. A Fleet First: Celebrity Xcel is the very first ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet equipped with a tri-fuel-capable engine built by Wärtsilä. This innovative propulsion system is uniquely engineered to run on three different fuel types, including green methanol. By integrating methanol compatibility, the ship drastically reduces its local exhaust emissions—including sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter—making it one of the most eco-conscious premium ships currently sailing. World-Class Accommodations & Staterooms True to the Edge-class philosophy, the accommodations onboard feel more like high-end boutique hotel suites than standard cruise cabins, with 1,646 staterooms onboard. Infinite Verandas: With the touch of a button, your entire stateroom wall drops down, transforming your living space into an open-air balcony; 918 staterooms are Edge Staterooms with Infinite Verandas. The Retreat: An exclusive "resort-within-a-resort" sanctuary reserved strictly for suite guests, with personalized service and dedicated service throughout the experience. It grants access to the private Retreat Sundeck, the Retreat Lounge, and Luminae Restaurant, which is exclusive to suite passengers and serves spa-inspired cuisine. AquaClass SkySuites: New to Celebrity Xcel, these suites pair floor-to-ceiling views with wellness amenities. Two-Story Villas: For ultimate luxury, these sprawling multi-level villas feature their own private plunge pools and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the ocean. All staterooms include keyless entry and RFID bands. Following its highly anticipated winter debut in the Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale, with its inaugural sailing from Port Everglades and 5-night Eastern Caribbean itineraries with calls such as Cozumel and Bimini that give guests more leisure between port days and sea days, Celebrity Xcel has crossed the Atlantic. In 2026, it sails in Europe and the Mediterranean, operating 7- to 11-night loops out of prime ports like Barcelona and Athens, with immersive itineraries through the Greek Isles, the Italian Riviera, and overnight stays in Madeira, Portugal. Culinary Excellence: 32 Food & Beverage Venues Celebrity Xcel boasts an incredible 32 distinct food and beverage venues, including 15 restaurants and 12 bars and lounges. The sheer variety ensures that guests can eat their way around the world without ever leaving the ship. Signature Specialty Dining For guests looking to elevate their evenings, Xcel brings back fleet favorites alongside completely new concepts: Le Voyage by Chef Daniel Boulud: The globally renowned chef returns with an intimate, upscale dining experience inspired by his own world travels. Fine Cut Steakhouse: A high-end, sophisticated space serving premium cuts of meat and fresh seafood. Raw on 5: The go-to spot for fresh sushi, oysters, and Japanese-inspired delicacies. Eden Restaurant: A multi-level, visually stunning dining room that blends nature-inspired architecture with inventive, sensory-focused cuisine. The Grand Plaza & Bars The beating heart of the ship is The Grand Plaza, a soaring, three-story venue inspired by the piazzas of Italy. Beneath a striking, massive chandelier, guests can gather at the famous Martini Bar for flair bartending shows. If you prefer a view, head to the Sunset Bar at the aft of the ship. Designed as a multi-level terrace, it offers panoramic, unobstructed ocean views—the perfect place for a pre-dinner craft cocktail. Next-Generation Entertainment & Tech Celebrity Xcel completely reimagines what entertainment at sea looks like, leaning heavily into immersive technology, and these first impressions of Xcel's entertainment and tech are hard to ignore. The Theatre & The Tree of Life The main Theatre features a spectacular 20-foot-tall curved 4K LED screen packed with 17 million pixels. It utilizes a 360-degree circular scrim and eight 21K laser projectors to wrap the audience in stunning visuals, with a broad, dance floor-style performance space that helps the productions feel more immersive. The centerpiece of the stage is the Tree of Life—a monumental 18-foot-tall structure adorned with 2,842 individual LED leaves. The ship hosts three brand-new production shows developed by talent from Broadway, film, and television, performed by Celebrity's largest cast to date as Broadway-caliber performances included in the fare. The Magic Carpet You cannot talk about the Celebrity Xcel without mentioning the Magic Carpet. This incredible engineering marvel is a tennis-court-sized cantilevered platform that hangs off the starboard side of the ship. It moves vertically across 14 decks, transforming its function based on where it stops—from an open-air extension of a restaurant on Deck 5 to a sky-high lounge with live music at the very top of the ship, and its elevated, ever-changing setup also makes it a can't miss event backdrop for standout moments. Celebrity Xcel Insider Tips: Hidden Secrets & Hacks You Need to Know If you want to experience the Celebrity Xcel like a seasoned pro, you have to look beyond the deck plans. Here are the top insider tips and hidden gems that will help guests get more from the cruise ship and elevate your sailing from a standard vacation to a VIP experience. Find the Secret 1920s Speakeasy There is a hidden bar onboard that you will not find on any official map, and the crew will playfully deny its existence if you ask them directly about a "secret bar" (try asking about "secrets on the ship" instead for a hint). How to find it: Look for a vintage-style photo booth. When you scan your SeaPass card, the booth physically moves to reveal the entrance to a hidden 1920s-themed speakeasy. The Experience: There is a strict no-phones policy—you are asked to place your device in a sealed bag—a period-accurate cocktail menu, and a one-hour time limit to ensure everyone gets a chance to experience the magic. The Bazaar's Immersive Details The Bazaar is heavily promoted as Xcel's ever-changing cultural venue, but there are two specific features most cruisers miss: Programmed Scents: The venue doesn't just change its lighting and live performances—the scent of the room is actually programmed to shift throughout the day to match the regional theme of your itinerary, and some sailings may also feature Caribbean inspired live music depending on the programming. Spice Restaurant: Tucked away at the very back of The Bazaar is a complimentary, fast-casual dining spot called Spice. It features a customizable menu, a beautiful enclosed outdoor seating area, and a secondary coffee bar that rarely has the long lines you will find at the main Café al Bacio. Track Down the "Secret" Pools & Hot Tubs The main Resort Deck is stunning, but it gets busy on sea days. For a quieter soak, seek out these alternative spots: The Champagne-Glass Hot Tubs: Walk up the stairs near the running track to find two elevated hot tubs. They offer the best panoramic views on the entire ship and are often completely empty early in the day. The Aft Plunge Pools: Located near the Sunset Bar, these glass-sided plunge pools offer incredible wake views and are tucked away from the heavy foot traffic of the main thoroughfare. The nearby celebrity pool club also gives the central pool zone a more polished feel if you want another place to linger. On the final sea day, that area can take on a Poolest Day-style atmosphere around the Celebrity Pool Club. Unlock the "Vitamin D Deck " If you purchase access to the SEA Thermal Suite in the spa, do not just stay indoors. Xcel introduced the Vitamin D Deck, an exclusive, forward-facing sun deck located right at the front of the ship. Part of Xcel's redesigned wellness complex with expanded spa offerings, it is a great perk for anyone who loves spa days and wants a quiet, spa days feel between treatments. It is specifically reserved for Thermal Suite guests, making it one of the quietest, most peaceful outdoor lounging areas onboard. Smart Cabin Hacks The Edge-class staterooms are packed with modern tech that can catch first-timers off guard: The "Go Green" Setting: Check your thermostat's settings on the digital wall panel. If the "Go Green" mode is active, your room will automatically warm up by a couple of degrees and turn off the lights when you leave. Toggle this off if you prefer returning to a perfectly chilled cabin after a hot day ashore. Heated Mirrors: The bathroom mirrors are heated, meaning they will never fog up while you are taking a hot shower. Magnetic Walls: Like most cruise ships, the cabin walls are metallic. Pack heavy-duty magnetic hooks to hang lanyards, hats, and daily planners to maximize your vertical storage space. Skip the Main Pool Bar The primary bar on the Resort Deck gets slammed during peak afternoon hours. Instead of waiting, take a short walk aft to the Sunset Bar. It is typically fully staffed, multi-leveled, and offers much faster drink service with infinitely better views of the ship's trailing wake, so you can spend a day long stretch between the pool and nearby bars without returning to the crowded main hub. - AIDAperla Cruise Guide | The Walking Cruiser's Expert Insights
Discover the AIDAperla cruise ship! Explore its modern specifications, restaurants, weatherproof Beach Club dome, and family-friendly amenities. AIDAperla AIDAperla Cruise Ship: The Ultimate Guide to Casual Luxury When it comes to modern, relaxed, and family-friendly cruising, the AIDAperla stands out as a jewel of the seas. Launched in 2017 as the second Hyperion-class ship for the popular German cruise line AIDA Cruises, this vessel blends state-of-the-art eco-technology with an informal, vibrant onboard atmosphere. Whether you are planning a European getaway or showcasing premier ships to your readers, here is everything you need to know about the innovative AIDAperla. Technical Specifications Explore the engineering and operational data of the world's most iconic cruise vessels. 125,572 GT Gross Tonnage 4,350 max Passenger Capacity 900 Crew Size 2017 Year Built AIDA Cruises Cruise Line Hamburg, Germany Home Port Onboard Atmosphere: Casual Comfort One of the biggest selling points of the AIDAperla is its relaxed "club ship" concept. Unlike traditional luxury cruises, you won't find rigid formal nights, strict dress codes, or assigned seating here. The vibe is entirely informal, welcoming, and centered around freedom. While guests dress smartly for dinner (men generally wear trousers in the evening), the emphasis is on a stress-free holiday. Because AIDA is a German brand, the primary language spoken on board is German, making it incredibly popular with European vacationers and those looking for an authentic continental travel experience. AIDAperla Weatherproof Beach Club Key Highlights & Amenities The AIDAperla is essentially a floating resort, packed with spaces designed to handle any type of weather—a crucial feature for its northern European and year-round itineraries. 1. The Weatherproof Beach Club No matter if the ship is cruising through a chilly breeze or a summer heatwave, the Beach Club remains a tropical paradise. It is covered by a massive, high-tech foil dome that lets in UV light (meaning you can actually get a tan indoors) while keeping out rain and cold. By day, it’s a relaxation hub with pools and palm trees; by night, it transforms into a lively party venue featuring beach parties and live DJ sets. 2. The Four Elements Activity Deck A dream come true for families, this action-packed area is themed around water, air, earth, and fire. It features: Thrilling water slides (including the dual-lane AIDA Racer). A lazy river. An indoor climbing wall. A large LED screen for movie nights. 3. Body & Soul Organic Spa For those looking to unwind, the ship boasts a massive 3,100-square-meter organic wellness oasis. It includes five distinct saunas, indoor and outdoor jacuzzis, private relaxation zones, and panoramic views over the ocean. AIDAperla A Lazy River Dining & Nightlife: A Culinary Journey With 12 restaurants and 18 bars, hunger is never an option on the AIDAperla. The ship uses a hybrid dining model that pairs completely free buffet options with specialty a la carte venues. The Buffets (Included): Popular spots like the Market Restaurant and East Restaurant offer rotating international cuisines with complimentary house wine, beer, and soft drinks served during meals. The Brauhaus: A genuine German beer hall at sea. They brew their own beers on board using purified ocean water and serve hearty, traditional dishes like schnitzel and pork knuckle. Specialty Dining: For an upscale evening, guests can book tables at the French Kiss brasserie, Casa Nova (Italian cuisine), or the premium Buffalo Steakhouse. For evening entertainment, the central hub is the Theatrium—a three-story, glass-walled fusion of a theater and an atrium. Instead of traditional closed-door theater shows, spectacular acrobatics, musicals, and game shows happen right in the center of the ship, allowing guests to grab a drink from a nearby bar and watch casually. AIDAperla Restaurant Sustainable Cruising Features The AIDAperla is also a frontrunner in green cruise tech. It is equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of running on clean liquefied natural gas (LNG) while docked in port, drastically reducing emissions. Additionally, it utilizes the Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System (MALS). This innovative technology pumps a continuous carpet of microscopic air bubbles underneath the ship's hull. The bubbles reduce friction between the vessel and the seawater, cutting fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by several percentage points. AIDAperla A Guide to AIDAperla’s Cabins and Suites Choosing the right stateroom is a major part of the cruise planning process. The AIDAperla features 1,643 cabins divided into 22 different categories, meaning there is a perfect fit for every travel style and budget. Notably, nearly 70% of the accommodations on board have private balconies. The Lanai Cabins: Located right near the waterline on Deck 8, these are highly sought-after. They feature a unique heated winter garden (patio) attached to an open balcony. It allows guests to enjoy ocean views and natural light even when sailing through cooler climates. Comfort Veranda Cabins: Built specifically with families in mind, these spacious rooms can accommodate up to five passengers. They feature a double sofa bed and an upper Pullman bed, offering plenty of sleeping space without feeling cramped. Junior Suites with Two Bathrooms : A rare find on many cruise ships, some Junior Suites on the AIDAperla come equipped with a full primary bathroom and a secondary guest half-bath—a massive convenience when multiple people are trying to get ready for dinner. Inside and Oceanview Cabins: For guests who prefer to spend their time out on the decks, the inside cabins (approx. 16 sqm) are well-designed and budget-friendly. Oceanview cabins offer up to 23 sqm of space with a large window and, in some cases, a walk-in closet. AIDAperla Recent Upgrades: The 2022 Refurbishment To keep the ship feeling brand new, the AIDAperla underwent a significant drydock refurbishment in Bremerhaven, Germany, in May 2022. While much of the work involved technical maintenance, several passenger-facing upgrades were added: Hypoxi Studio: Added to the Body & Soul Organic Spa, this new studio offers targeted, high-tech figure-shaping classes. New Ice Cream Bar: A dedicated spot serving a wide array of premium ice creams and freshly baked cakes. Upgraded Fitness Offerings: The gym received updated equipment and introduced "cyberobics" workouts led virtually by professional trainers. AIDAperla Deck Plans Preview AIDAperla PDF Brochure. For uninterrupted peace, head up to Deck 14 to The Veranda, an exclusive, adults-only sunbathing deck offering plush loungers, cabanas, and panoramic views of the horizon. Why Choose the Marella Explorer? The Marella Explorer masterfully blends high-energy entertainment with top-tier relaxation. With fully all-inclusive packages as standard (meaning tips and service charges are already covered in your fare), a massive variety of dining options, and an itinerary list that covers some of the world's most beautiful ports, it stands out as a flagship experience in modern cruising. Whether you are seeking family fun on the sports deck, a romantic dinner at Surf & Turf, or a late-night dance at Indigo, the Marella Explorer delivers an unforgettable holiday at sea. Marella Explorer Insider Tips & Hidden Secrets While the main features of the Marella Explorer are easy to spot, some of the best onboard experiences are tucked away where average passengers miss them. If you want to cruise like a seasoned pro, make sure to add these lesser-known insider tips and hidden spots to your itinerary. 1. The Best Free Sunbathing Escape: The Veranda The main pool deck on Deck 11 is the high-energy heart of the ship, but on sea days, finding a vacant lounger can feel like a sport. The Secret: Head all the way up to Deck 14 to find The Veranda. Why go: This is a dedicated, peaceful, adults-only sun deck. It features plush, heavily padded loungers and cocoon chairs that are vastly superior to the standard plastic pool deck chairs. Best of all, it offers unobstructed, elevated views of the open ocean far away from the pool music and activities. 2. The Spa's Hidden Sea-View Window The Marella Explorer features a massive Ocean Spa facility, but you don't necessarily have to spend a fortune on high-end treatments to enjoy its best asset. The Secret: The onboard thermal suite houses a panoramic sauna with floor-to-ceiling glass windows looking directly out over the ocean waves. Pro Tip: If you book a standard body treatment or facial, check for bundle deals that include day-pass access to the thermal suite. Relaxing in a hot sauna while watching the ocean slide past at 18 knots is easily one of the most underrated experiences onboard. 3. Don't Order Your Drinks at the Bar On hot sea days or right before the evening theater productions start, lines at the physical bars can get backed up. The Secret: Look out for the roaming drinks carts on the pool deck. Crew members push these around loaded with pre-mixed favorites, beers, and ice, allowing you to flag them down and grab a drink directly from your sun lounger without standing in line. Theater Hack: Similarly, right before the main West End-style productions in the Broadway Show Lounge, the crew sets up a massive table of pre-poured, included drinks right by the theater entrance. Skip the main indoor bars and grab a glass on your way into the auditorium. 4. The Upgraded Balcony Hammock Secret If you are trying to decide which cabin category to book, take a close look at Deck 10. The Secret: The standard Balcony Cabins on Deck 10 feature massive, oversized private balconies—significantly deeper than the balconies on lower decks. Why it's worth it: Because of the physical structure and flare of the hull, these extended balconies are spacious enough to fit two traditional sun loungers, a table, chairs, and a full-sized woven hammock. It gives you a private suite-style balcony layout for the price of a standard balcony fare. 5. Indulge in the "Secret" Premium Coffee Shop Treats Marella operates on a highly inclusive model where standard buffet cookies and soft-serve ice cream are completely free. However, if you have a sweet tooth, there is one paid upgrade that is worth every penny. The Secret: Head to The Coffee Port on Deck 6. While the specialized barista coffees carry a small premium charge, they serve massive, freshly baked gourmet cookies (usually around £2 to £3) that are completely different from—and infinitely better than—the standard free biscuits found in the Market Place buffet. 6. Cabin Power Hack: Bring a Multi-Plug Adapter The Marella Explorer is a beautifully maintained but older, classic vessel (originally built in the late 1990s and heavily refurbished in 2018). Because of its older architectural layout, modern tech integration is a bit sparse in the staterooms. The Secret: Most standard cabins only feature two live power outlets near the desk area. If you are traveling as a couple or family trying to charge multiple smartphones, cameras, tablets, and smartwatches overnight, you will quickly run out of space. Always pack a non-surge-protected multi-plug adapter or a multi-port USB charging block to maximize your limited cabin sockets. The All-Inclusive Regent Difference What truly sets the Seven Seas Explorer apart is its uncompromising all-inclusive fare. When you book a voyage on this ship, almost everything is covered: Unlimited shore excursions in every port All specialty dining and 24-hour room service Premium beverages, including fine wines and spirits Pre-paid gratuities Unlimited Wi-Fi 7 Insider Secrets of the Seven Seas Explorer 1. The 24-Hour Compass Rose Hack While Compass Rose is the main dining room, most guests don’t realize it operates with a hidden level of customization. If you have a specific craving whether it’s an authentic Indian curry, a Filipino specialty, or a classic Chateaubriand you can speak to the maître d' 24 hours in advance. The culinary team will happily prepare off-menu requests just for you. 2. The Best Suites for Ship Spotters If keeping an eye on vessel movements, port traffic, or the horizon is a priority, book a Category D or E Concierge Suite, or an F-Class Suite. On the Explorer, the beds in these specific categories are oriented to directly face the ocean. Combine this layout with the oversized balconies found in the D and E categories (which are large enough to fit full sun loungers rather than just upright chairs), and you have the ultimate private lookout point. 3. Open Access to the Thermal Suite Many cruisers assume they need to book an expensive massage to use the spa's premium facilities. However, the Serene Spa & Wellness center offers open access to its infrared sauna, cold room, steam room, and a stunning aft-facing infinity pool. Guests can use these amenities completely free of charge between 8:30 AM and 8:00 PM. 4. The Unadvertised French Press For true coffee aficionados, the automated coffee machines might not hit the spot. For the best brew on the ship, head to the Coffee Connection and specifically request a French Press. It isn't advertised on the standard menus, but the baristas will gladly prepare one, allowing you to control the exact strength of your morning coffee. 5. The Hidden Deck 12 Lounge When the main pool area on Deck 11 gets busy on sea days, most passengers don't realize there is a secondary tier of outdoor lounging just one deck up. Deck 12 offers a quiet, uncrowded retreat with panoramic views, shaded areas, and gentle ocean breezes perfect for reading or napping away from the main pool traffic. 6. The "Second Helping" Dining Loophole The ship’s specialty restaurants (Prime 7, Chartreuse, and Pacific Rim) are incredibly popular, and guests are officially allotted one dinner reservation per venue prior to sailing. However, there are two workarounds to get more: first, you can often snag a second dinner reservation once onboard by speaking to the concierge (especially if you are willing to share a table). Second, these venues frequently open for lunch on sea days, allowing you to sample the premium menus without using up an evening reservation. 7. Terry-Cloth Pool Loungers It’s a tiny detail, but one that makes a massive difference on a hot day: unlike the sticky, damp vinyl pool chairs found on mainstream cruise lines, the pool loungers on the Explorer are heavily padded and dressed in custom-fitted, removable terry-cloth covers. They stay cool in the hot sun and provide a vastly more comfortable poolside experience.
